Carolyn Heinze
Not sure if it's the translation or the style I don't like, but I had to put it down after the third chapter. I THINK the author was attempting to write in the same manner that Johnny To treats his films: a little kitschy, but kitschy on purpose. But unlike To's films, this book didn't work for me. What's interesting, however, is that it wasn't banned by the Chinese government, even though it is largely critical of the country's bureaucracy.
tells you more about China than many "research" studies
