Another Doctor Who novel, this time featuring the Doctor in his Tenth incarnation with Martha. In this book, Martha persuades the Doctor to land on board the legendary Starship Brilliant, legendary because it disappeared and no one knows why.

It got a bit confusing from the word go, what with Martha being dead one chapter and alive the next, but once the reason for that was given, it made a lot more sense. There was a great deal of timey-wimey-ness in this book which meant that I More...

A long time fan of books from sci-fi tv shows (please see Star Trek), I was intrigued to read a Doctor Who book. The story was interesting, if a bit Doctor Who silly. The supporting characters were written a bit too simple for my liking, but the Doctor and Martha characters were written perfectly. (Martha was written exactly how I wanted her written in the show, even if the show never met that mark.)

A passing familiarity with Doctor Who is probably necessary to enjoy the book on all More...

It's a very slim story featuring a ship caught in a time loop and humanoid badger pirates that suffers from an all-too-flippant Doctor. It's a harmless romp, yet there's violence in it, and the Doctor's reaction seems off. Good use of the time loop for narrative effect, but yeah, it tends to repeat itself.

Pick up this book only if you like your Doctor Who on the bonkers and silly side. Which I do, from time to time. If slightly dim badger-headed genetically engineered space pirates or a plot that revolves heavily around a self-replenishing tray of cheese-and-pineapple sticks strike you as excessively goofy, give this one a pass.

The book also manages to pack in some truly surprising plot twists (which I won't spoil). I'm almost tempted to give it 4 stars, but despite being enjoyable, More...

It's basically like reading an episode of Doctor Who, and I figure that's the point. The Doctor and Martha were near enough their TV characters that I wasn't distracted, even if some of the story was a little forced and I stumbled over adjectives in every sentence. If you miss the Tenth Doctor, it's a good, nostalgic read.

The Tenth Doctor and Martha find themselves on a luxury cruise spaceship under peculiar attack; a scenario which the TV version of Who did rather better a few months after this came out (though with Kylie Minogue instead of Freema). We know that the pirates are funny because they have working class accents and aren't very bright. Also they look like badgers. There is a reasonably neat time loop idea (the loop of the title) and a sort-of moral More...

Because I am utterly obsessed with Doctor Who, I have been on the enjoyable task of reading every Doctor Who novel the library can provide. This is a darn good one. A lot of them are set on Earth, in which case we get the interesting element of the time-travelling alien interacting with our familiar environment... however, this one is set on an alien spaceship and right from the get-go we have intriguing aliens, alien tech, and clearly some sort of time-dilation/hyperspace travel/mysterious al More...

Wasn't sure at first, but once I got into the silly (it's supposed to be!) story and enjoyed the badger pirates, I was hooked. Lots of fun, and Martha has some great scenes.

Enjoyable read with martha and the doctor written closely to the style of the tv version. Space badgers ftw.

I love a good doctor who story. This one is rather silly but still entertaining.

This is the strongest Doctor Who sci-fi book I've read, blending strikingly real descriptions of cutting edge science with thrilling adventure.

So many Doctor Who books (and I have all the new ones)....a written review is unnecessary for them all.

Not my favorite of the Who books, but I tend to like the Rose or Donna novels over the Martha ones.

I'm actually pretty surprised by how much I liked this one. It may be my favorite of the Tenth Doctor New Adventures. It was zany and goofy and fun, with moments of surprise and some good twists. I thought Martha was pretty well done, and the Doctor was nicely bouncy. It was the kind of screwball comedy I could easily see happening as an episode.

This book was okay. It started with an interesting plot that had a hard time getting anywhere. I read a lot of British books, but this one just didn't flow very well with the over-use of local slang. I also didn't think the author got the Doctor's voice down very well. All in all, it seemed long and I struggled to finish it.

Very much enjoyed this Doctor Who adventure. It was fun, silly and showed that a little kindness can go a long way.

While there are a lot of very likable characters and very vivid ones, it doesn't help the fact that the story is a bit thin and boring in the middle. Otherwise, it has a very strong and unusual ending and space pirate badgers!

This is what happens when you mess with the time line....actually not a half bad 'time intereference plot' book, though the jumping back and forth is jarring, and has a bittersweet ending to say the least. But still a good read.

This is one of the zany, fun and somewhat completely bonkers story. In that style, it's one of the most enjoyable ones. There's the time is not a linear thing going on and some cute aliens. So again an enjoyable romp.

Very clever premise, with lots of engaging characters. Freema does a great job with everyone and it's a treat to listen to her tell the story. I'm definitely going to look for Simon Guerrier's other work.

Completely different to Mr. Guerrier's previous, timey-wimey 1st Doctor novel. Frankly, it's (delightfully) mad as a sack of badgers. Ironic, given that...oh, just READ IT yourself! :)

About being stuck with the starship brilliant as it is stuck in a time loop right when attacked by pirates.

Cute. Has the feel of an off-story Who episode. A bit depressing at the end though.

It's not so much 'reading' as is 'listening to Freema read the audio verson'.
