Another one of those kindle freebies that ended up hanging out on my kindle for far too long. And turns out for nothing too. This is exactly the sort of bland, unimaginative and unexciting horror that makes one rethink trying out random genre books. Brown isn't a terrible writer per se, the stories are perfectly readable, it's just that that's really it. They are just readable. Utterly unoriginal, Brown apparently has never met a horror cliché he didn't want to canoodle, overly reliant on action ...more

"The Dwellers of Oar Knob and Other Tales" by Eric S. Brown is a collection of 12 short horror stories from Eric's early days as a writer. If that information had not been included in the epilogue, I would never have guessed these weren't brand new tales. They are very well written, and very horrifying. Eric has included a few zombie tales in this collection, but he has also included a few unknown, unnamed connoisseurs of human flesh that will have you double-checking all the windows and doors ...more
