It's Jack Vance, and that means fun! Well, minor Vance. But still fun.

Vance mostly wrote SF and fantasy so I was curious to see how he'd handle a contemporary (for the 60s) thriller. And the answer is: he throws his standard hero into the bars, backstreets and bazaars of Morocco, and weaves the same kind of exotic tourist-punk atmosphere he used to such great effect in his Gaian Reach novels. It's very reminiscent of Casablanca, and I don't think suffers too much by the comparison.

It was good until the end. The last few chapters seemed rushed and not very thought out.

Vance also writes mysteries. I gave this one a try. Not the best, but not too bad either. Maybe I will give another one a try.
