Hey Sarah! An actual physical copy! :P Told you I will request the hell out of the library.

description

I should've read this a long time ago but yeah...kind of got dragged into more manga/anime stuff with my friends. So where do I begin with the review...

I really liked the manga. The characters seemed interesting...some odd but definitely interesting.

Mikan...well she was really your typical manga type of girl. She was ummm...the happy, bubbly character. But she cried a lot as well. I mean i know her best

Impressive book, I really liked the imagination of the story, however the depth of emotions and the behavior that the characters have really seems inconsistent with their age. Otherwise I think this is a great graphic novel.

Dour, cynical, yet good hearted sidekick - Check

What?

While the series doesn't appear to be subverting the mysterious school genre, it at least has some interesting bells and whistles. Worth taking a shot.

Here is another manga that I haven't decided yet if I will continue following. The premise is pretty simple, and pretty familiar. Mikan is trying to get into a special school for Alices, because her best friend Hotaru is going there now. As she discovers, Alices have a magical ability that can be powerful and even destructive. Her Alice is a mystery to her until the end of the volume, but most readers will figure it out very early on. So yes, it is rather like X-Men in some ways, except that the ...more

I began this series YEARS AGO, like back when I was in the 7th grade. I always passed the shelf with this series in the library and I never took notice of it until one day when I pulled out volume 2 (yes, I started with volume 2 because I couldn't find volume 1).

And now that I'm reading volume 24, I can easily say . . . I LOVE GAKUEN ALICE!!!!
I LOVE this series!! I am madly, passionately, and irrevocably in love with it! Which is why I'm super happy to say that Gakuen Alice is my first 5-star-ra

This is actually much better than I expected! It's like a cute, shoujo cross between X-men and Hollowfeilds. I have to wonder why they refer to a child's special ability as an "Alice", since that seems like such a random name for it; the only reference I can think of is Alice in Wonderland, falling down the rabbit hole into a place where the rules are upside down and inside out. The cutesy friendship-centered surface of the story belies the depth of the plot. The children are surprisingly violen ...more

I kept hearing that this was the "next Fruits Basket" as that's what TP wants you to believe, and though I was dubious I was charmed right away by this first volume. It skews a bit younger than Fruits Basket, by virtue of the fact that it's about elementary school students, but the cute art, silly sense of humor, and magical circumstances do give it a similar appeal to Fruits Basket. I was initially unsure as to whether teens would be put off by the young age of the heroine (she's 10) but I don' ...more

Gakuen Alice is such a great manga! After reading "Fruits Basket" barely anything could satisfy my standards but this did. It is my second favorite manga of all time. The characters: Mikan, Natsume, Hotaru, and Ruka, are all so captivating and heartwarming. You come to love them all despite their sillinesses. Mikan can be whiney and dumb, but she's determined, saucy, sweet, and adorably persistent! Natsume first seems...well evil. But come on--you knew Mikan deserved it (well not always) but aft ...more

The story, the characters, and the dialogue are very well-written and conceptualized.

Read up to 50 chapters and decided to drop it. Realized it's Shoujo and not meant for me.
The Art is Horrible, seems to be just novice sketches - still could have worked if the story and plot were good. In the initial 20 chapters the weird relationship between the characters created good humor. That is the only strong point of the writing. The Story seemed confusing and random. Didn't like any of the main characters, its the side characters which made it a bearable read - Hotaru and the mind read

One word: AWESOME
Gakuen Alice fluently ties together "kid life" and "adult life" perfectly! At first glance you might think that this book is just another silly kid story, but once you get into it there's a good chance you will forever be hooked! This was actually the very first manga that I had ever read and it is still one of THE best ones so far.

It has been a long time since I set down and read a very long manga. Yup, you’re not mistaken, there are 180 chapters and 31 volumes in total. Ns truth to be told I actually wanted it to continue, but maybe it will, in a spin-off series, I am still dreaming about that, but if t will, I’ll definitely put the notice on the blog.

But let me get back to the story. To say the truth it has been around a week since I started writing this review, and it’s only because ther

I watched the anime about a year before I began reading the manga. All I have to say about the comparison between the two is that there IS no comparison. Sure, the anime is cute and funny, but the manga is so much better, that I have to call it great.

Nearly all books and mangas are driven by either characters or their own plot(s). Gakuen Alice is unique because I can't tell which element is driving the story. During the first thirty volumes, I would have definitely said the former, but once one

(This is only MY opinion, so nobody get butthurt!

I first discovered this manga in a video about "Top 10 Manga for Children." At first, I didn't actually watch any of the anime on the list, but one stuck out in my mind.

Gakuen Alice, or Alice Academy.

It sounded interesting and the guy said that it had a deeper story, so I watched it.

I loved everything about it, the voice actors, the characters' personalities, the story, the humor, and the tiny budding

I have 1 star rated these series up to volume 15 or so, because IT WAS SO FUCKING DRY AND STUPID. this story is basically a bunch of kids (literally 12~year olds) who have these supernatural powers/abilities (also known as "Alices") And this academy known as "Alice Academy" where the teachers and principals board and teach these kids how to use and control their "Alices". Parents do not know that their kids have these (and some only do because they passed on their alice to to them) Mind, you it ...more

I have read this manga because I became really addicted with the anime and because it only has season one and I'm craving for more I decided to read scanlations on the internet.

At first I really think that the anime was better because I'm not use with the drawing sometimes it's confusing and crappy at times. But as I get used to it I was surprised that in the midpart of it there is a big difference in the storyline. Believe me the story line in the manga is more interesting, darker, more romanti

It's a really good Manga. Though I didn't like at first since I had watched the Anime as a kid, but after you go past the point where the Anime stops (which is really early on- maybe only 20 or so chapters) it becomes really interesting.

You have a wide range of characters who are unique in their own way. I especially love the way they all bond together like a family. All of them are thrown into a life that they never wished for but still come together to rise above all the sadness, anger and hel

This was definitely one of the... stranger manga I've read recently.

Basically, this is the story about elementary school student Mikan Sakura who runs off after a "friend" who barely warrants the title to an exclusive prison school in which everyone has special abilities known as "Alice" and is known as an "Alice" (part of me thinks this is just poor translation on Tokyopop's part). Once there, Mikan is abused by her future bestest friend/love interest Natsume, who tries to burn her to a crisp w

I came to these manga by the anime, having been introduced to the charming series by my boyfriend, who is always trying to broaden my anime-horizons (I'm not the biggest fan, to be honest, as most anime tends to be either too perverse or opaque for me. My manga experience has also been limited to, I'll admit, the entire run of SailorMoon, even when it got boring and stupid, and a copy of Dragonball Z here and there.) Mysterious, slightly sinister boarding school for talented kids, or "alices." Each "alice" has a special talent or power, also called an "alice." They are protected by the government, and some see themselves as "chosen people" and non-Alices as "drones." But they are under the gov't's tight control. Their school badges double as tracking devices, and they cannot see their family until graduation.
