After having finished John Connolly's "The Book of Lost Things," I wanted to read more of his work.
Any book called "Bad Men" ought to have its fair share of violence and well, bad men. And this one certainly does.

The amazon reviews were pretty positive for this and warned of its violence and how it's not for the faint of heart. I didn't think it was all that violent. In fact I thought it would abruptly change scenes when something bad was about to go down and that was frustrating. Not that I want tons of gore but it felt like a cop out. I picked this up for light summer reading and it was that for sure.

Connolly has more writing chops in his little finger than most genre writers have on their whole derivative hands. He can really make a phrase sing and a scene come to life. He deals in the supernatural and with human evil with a tough, but open-mind and manages to get under the skin of even his most loathsome characters. Highly readable and stays with you in a way that most thrillers don't.

I never thought I was a fan of this type of thriller. After reading this book, I launched myself into the genre and John Connolly has become one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book as well as Connolly's others.
