There are hosts of biographies about medieval figures, yet with the exception of Saint Augustine and maybe one or two others before modern times it is impossible to get close to any person in history. At best we see the shadow of their activity. Their thoughts, opinions, motivations are mostly unknown. This book is no biography, which avoids the problem altogether.
