Enjoyable. I always learn more about something when I read her books. This time is about the tunnels under NYC which provide water and the sandhogs who dig these tunnels. I also think Fairstein is setting it up for Alex & Chapman to become involved.

Brendan Quillian--sandhog made good--stands accused of hiring a hitman to murder his wife. His past cmes back to haunt him and we learn about the underground cities of New York City and the water tunnels that hydrate the city. Quite good!

• Was better than her last few - for some reason it was easier to follow
• Although her love of NYC is obvious in how in details she describes its history and settings within, it can drone on
• Next book I'd like to see more of Mercer - more than being Mr. Reliable and the strong one - give him a conflict
• Curious if Alex's family will ever be introduced firsthand/involved in a storyline, rather than provide backstory
• When Mike's in pain, we're all in pain - he's a fun character...more

Pretty Good Book.

This is the third book by Linda Fairstien that I have read. I like the historical aspects of the book, and I have found that's a running theme in her books-- something focused on the history of NYC.

I do wonder if they are a bit formulaic though, in a sense that the books always end up with a confrontation (where we think that the heroine is in danger, but it always ends up okay. Also, there is always some new love interest with the main character that ends up not worki...more

I really enjoy Linda Fairstein's Alex Cooper novels. I like the personal experience she brings to the novels, I like the relationship between the main characters: Alexandra Cooper, Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace, and I like the history of New York that encompasses every novel.

This was my favorite Fairstein novel - I LOVED the history of the New York water tunnels! Wow!

My mom totally loves Linda Farstein and I have tried to get into her books. This is the second that I have read, but so far I am not very impressed. They are perfectly decent mysteries but I can't seem to identify all that much with her main character so I read and I'm like oh, sure whatev! But if you like mysteries (not my favorite kind of book)these are pretty decent.

This is the first book I've read in this series. I really liked Alexandra's character and her relationship with Mercer and Chapman. I think I will go back and start the series from the beginning. It seems like there is something between Alex and Mike, and I'm wondering if it is something that happened in the past, or something that will happen in the future.

I bought this book in a gift shop because I was somewhere without a book(don't know how that happend!)and needed something to read. I had never heard of Linda Fairstein but I'm glad I picked this up. The story drew me in right away and I enjoyed the characters. I look forward to reading more of her work.

I like everything Fairstein writes. She keeps you interested by throwing in a twist just when you start to get bored. They are fun and easy reads when you don't feel like really thinking about what you are reading...or when your brain won't concentrate on anything for more than two minutes.

Part of a Reader's Digest. This one was okay, and while it was hard to put down at times it didn't really hold my interest and reviewing it a few weeks later I can't even remember much of what it was about. I fact, I'm mixing it up with another book and can't remember it at all.

An easy read - read it in about 3 days. A simple mystery, predictable. The book gave lots of history on the subway system and the system used for bringing potable water into the city - that was the best part of the book and made reading it worth it.

Just finished this up today and loved it! Kept me intrigued and guessing along the way. I liked the ending and how it all came full circle, no questions unanswered. Went to the book store and bought another book by the same author!

This Fairstein novel was something out of CSI or TruTV. Not one of my favorite storylines. Too many characters and interwoven subplots. I found myself zoning out a bit in this one.

This is a relatively short book. But I still couldn't finish it. I'm not sure what it was but every time I opened it up to start reading I couldn't focus in on the story.

This was not one of Fairstein's best reads, in my opinion. I found myself bored in a few places. They only highlights was the interaction between Alex and Mike.

Reading any of Linda Fairstein's books are great way to learn about unique New York history and landmarks while still enjoying a great fictional mystery.

A bit unrealistic - I hope.

If the legal system, unions and law enforcement actually worked this way we would all be in trouble.

Alexandra Cooper is a fun character to read about. I learned some things about New York and enjoyed this fast-paced book at the same time.
