In the meantime, a group of terrorists, hijack a commercial airliner bound for Greece and instead force it to land in Kazbekistan. On the plane is Gina Vitagliano who becomes the one hostage through whom the terrorists communicate.

SEAL team 16 are deployed to rescue the hostages, with Sam Starrett running the op. The FBI sends in Max Baghat and his team, which includes Alyssa Locke, to either negotiate the safe release or stall the terrorists long enough for Sam and his team to rescue.

While in the steaming, hostile country affectionately called The Pit, Stan and Teri connect, Sam and Alyssa write another chapter in their stormy love story, Max and Gina are introduced and we learn a little back history about a WWII holocaust survivor.

This is one of my very favorite of the Troubleshooter series.

Stan/Teri: The main story of Stan and Teri is wonderful. Stan is not alpha dog material like Sam, but he still make a great hero. I love his inner dialogue about his feelings for Teri. Brockmann gives their story a light comic touch with Stan's attempts to set Teri up with the clueless Mike Muldoon while trying to suppress his own feelings for her. But she also tempers it with some gravitas when she allows Teri to open up to Stan about her past and why she has problems asserting herself.

Sam/Alyssa: This made my heart break. I can't deny that Sam and Alyssa's little dance is delicious to watch. The two of them spar words and snipe at each other and it doesn't seem contrived or cliche. This is because Brockmann has very clearly let the reader know that Sam and Alyssa's sniping is only "on" when they are in front of each other. Apart, the two of them are miserable in love. And then, when it looks like we are finally gonna get our happy ending -- BAM! something comes out of left field that makes it all kaput. That least scene with Alyssa all giddy and dressed up for Sam made me so sad. But in a weird way it crystallized my absolute love for Sam Starrett. Is his own macho asshole way, he is a wonderful, honorable man.

The Hijacking: As a main storyline this one can't be beat. We meet Gina for the first time. We delve into the character of Max. This is the nascent period of Brockmann's the second great long running romance arc, Max & Gina. I loved the scenes of the SEAL team as they drill tirelessly to board the plane using Alyssa, Jules and Teri as stand in terrorists. Sam's frustration at having to wait for the go ahead to board is palpable and his artistic and multiple uses of the word 'Fuck' is absolutely Homeric.

The WWII storyline: This was my least favorite of all the WWII storylines that pepper the series. I wasn't really involved in Helga's story very much. But I think that Brockmann did a great job in showing the character's confusion and disorientation as she begins showing the signs of Alzheimer's.

Man Oh Man This Is A Sweet 4.5 Star Read~ It Has Nail Biting Suspense and a Sweet Love Story(s) Intertwined. In a WWII Subplot That, ALWAYS blends well and gives additional BLISS TO A WONDERFUL ENDING.

After closing this book I Find That~I'm Am Hooked On This Series Now I Will Have To Read Them All....In Order...Wildcard and Max are one of the few I also fell in love with in this book/series? Terry and Stan were freaking adorable.Sam and Alyssa I love them to BUT, Gosh..What Happen......more

Shelves: favorites-of-all, must-read, hot-romance

I really enjoyed Teri and Stan's story. Becoming friends who are thrown into a rescue mission tests their desires for each other. This was a pretty good page turner. You will al so see Sam and Alyssa in this book and meet some new friends as well.

Sexy, lots of action, great characters with lots of personality. If you read any of the Troubleshooters series you MUST read them all. I high recommend it.

This book was a major improvement over the last two in the series. My mind was literally blown with all the action and back and forth between the characters in this book. These men and women are flawed... to the the point of being so realistic that I found myself with tears in my eyes when one of them was injured or hurting.

This is a complex, involved story centering on the men of the Navy SEAL Team Sixteen Troubleshooters Squad. There is an airplane hijacking, a tense hostage situation, and a group of very skilled, very dedicated men and women working very hard to rescue the innocent passengers trapped on the airplane.

There are several love stories going on throughout this book, including a flashback story-within-the-story about the Holocaust in Denmark during World War II.

This is a gripping, emotional story.

I love how the characters are drawn in this story. There are so many of them and I really felt that I came to know them. The story of Stan and Teri is fabulous and quite sweet. The tough senior chief Stan is just a softy underneath it all, with the presence of Teri Howe to bring that out. Teri is also great character. Not only is she beautiful, but she's extremely intelligent, a great pilot and has strong character.

Surprizingly, I really enjoyed Sam and Alyssa's story and really felt their pain. I am hoping to see what if anything happens in future stories in this series.

My only issue with this (as with others) was that I felt that Helga's WWII love story took up too much of the book and really didn't add to it. Also, I really wasn't clear as to what her job in the operation was at all. While it was sad to see the Alteimers taking over, it just didn't add much to the story for me. Even with that, I still think it's a 5 star read as I see myself going back to read it again.

The story itself had such vividly drawn characters that you can connect with/relate to. It was pretty emotional at times and it's not often that I am able to really see characters like these. There's humor at times and I found myself laughing out loud a couple of times. It's certainly a romance, but it's not all sex sex sex. I can wait to see more from the characters in this series. So glad that there are about 16 in this series. I am going back to listen to the first 2 and will continue on from there.

I love the job that Laura Hicks did with narrating this story. The voices that she did for both the female and male characters was outstanding and I found that the narrators to the first two in this series doesn't even come close to the job that Ms. Hicks did with this one. (I have sampled the first two and am in the process of reading them now as I enjoyed this book so much.) Her voices for Max, Stan and Sam are absolutely amazing. (and that's sometimes tough for a female narrator to pull off a male voice. To me, that sometimes makes or breaks the character when listening to audio versions like these.)

Book 3 in the Troubleshooters series

I really enjoy SB's writing, she simply keeps me intrigued throughout each book. This is a series that, to get the most enjoyment from, must be read in order. I'm reading the series a 2nd time at this point but when I was reading it the first time I didn't realize that and started in the middle of the series. I was so frustrated. This time through I've started at book one. These books always have one happy ending and one or two story lines that are left hanging for another book or are not so happy. I'm letting you know this because if you're a hard core HEA lover you probably won't love these books as much as I do.

Stan & Teri - Stan has admired Teri as a pilot but is forced to notice her as a woman because he wittinesses her being herassed by an officer. Of course, Stan interrupts to help her out and thus begins their story. Stan arranges for Teri to pilot the helo on the Troubleshooters training mission but as you know things don't always turn out as they have been planned.

Sam & Alyssa - have a past. We meet them in book one, follow their steamy and tumultuous relationship into book two. A plane has been highjacked in Kazbeckistan, Sam is leading the SEALs team who have been assigned to storm the plane and Alyssa and her partner are there with the FBI counterterrorism negotiator (Max). Their love/hate relationship continues. They are building a professioal respect for one another throughout the first three books that help them cross the divide to their personal relationship.

Helga, Des, Marte, and Stan - Helga is the envoy from Israel. Des (Desmond) is her "assistant". Helga has been assigned as the Israeli representative to th K-stan highjacking. She has been noticing that her memory is slipping and has begun writing herself copious notes. When she leaves home for K-stan her memory becomes exponentially worse. She starts having flash backs to her childhood in Nazi invaded Denmark when her best friend Marte helps to save Helga and her family from the Nazis. This time in history is always spellbinding but I had never read about the Danish and how they handled the invasion. (I really enjoy how SB weaves these secondary storylines into her books.) Stan is Marte's son and Helga is able to get to know him and tell him about his mother and that time in her life. Stan was able to tell Helga the "rest of the story" so to speak because she wanted to know how Marte and her sister Annabet lived their lives. This was very touching.

All in all these are fun, gripping books that hold my attention and yes teach me something in the process.

Stan and Teri... cute! I love how the author creates these very sensitive, sweet and tender love stories in the middle of a crisis. Here are all these hard-working Seals who you'd expect to not have "fluffy" thoughts about loving another person, but they DO. They have such big feelings and such sensitivity, consideration and emotions for a woman, it blows you right away. I thought it was a little sad how Stan didn't have any confidence in himself and couldn't see that Teri was genuinely interested in him, but they eventually figure it out.

Gina... SUCH a brave girl. I can't even imagine being in a position like that. And to still maintain some level of humour in such a horrid situation... WOW. I'm curious to know if we'll ever get to know more about Max and Gina? Now there would be one interesting story.

There was only one incredible moment of cheese between Stan and Teri, right near the very end, and it was SO cheesy that it almost ruined everything... but I managed to overcome it. The rest is such an entertaining read that I guess I'll forgive it.

It has a World War II story, as did the previous book, however, I didn't find this one as interesting as the one in Book 2. Actually in book 2 the WWII story was more interesting to me than the main characters. At least in this book the main h was smart and didn't do silly things unlike Meg, the h in Book 2, who irritated the crap out of me to the extent that I left this series and have only just come back to it. I actually skipped over most of the WWII historical bits in this book.

I think it makes these books interesting that so many things are going on, but I must say the swapping from one romance to another takes me out of the stories continually and can be a bit draining trying to keep up. The way it comes up on my ereader there weren't any lines or chapter changes to indicate moving to one of the other stories and sometimes I'd be reading for paragraphs before I comprehended we'd moved to different characters. I'd have to go back and reread once I'd realised the names were different and had switched again to one of the other stories. I'm not sure how you would place them to make them more acceptable, but it takes a bit of perseverance to stay with it.

I'm still not getting the "romance" between Sam and Alyssa. I thought she was a total bitch in Book 2 and for most of this book she's no different. I can't really understand why Sam is in love with her, except for the fact that she's apparently so beautiful. It sure isn't because she very interesting or nice. If she were ugly or even plain and acted the way she does, she would be on her own for her whole life. It's just another case of my pet hate in romance books where beautiful people can be total bastards but get away with it because they are so beautiful. You sure wouldn't want to look inside the person because there ain't much there, and I definitely feel this way about Alyssa. All looks and no substance and since this is a book and I don't really now what she looks like I can only go by character ... and hers is quite dull and nasty. It's probably best Sam and Alyssa's HEA is a few books in from the start of the series because the way they both act, a lot of growing up is required on both parts to conduct an adult relationship. Hopefully they will grow up a bit and maybe when they get their HEA I'll be on board.

On reading what I've written so far, I notice I've pointed out a lot of what I didn't so much like, but overall, I did really enjoy this book ... more so than the last one, so we're progessing. The writer has created an interesting group of characters I feel like I'm slowly getting to know and want to get to know better. Like in real life, there are those who are interesting, dull, a bit difficult to like, as well as those I want more of, so I'm keen to move to the next books.

I'm onto the next book in the series as I'm looking forward to Wildcard's story and a bit of humour. (less)

Wow, wow, wow! This is the one that has cemented me as a fan of the Troubleshooter series and of Suzanne Brockmann.

Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok. I fell in love with Stan. He's not your typical pretty boy hero. Compared to his comrades, he is the ugly one, the not-so-interesting one. I loved this one ...so many couples and so much action and drama. Stan and Terri were just wonderful. I loved Stan's I can fix anything attitude even if it costs him his love. The speech he gives to Muldoon as he's trying to convince Muldoon to bed Teri was touching and yet so funny becuase here he is pouring his heart out while trying to peruade his friend to sleep with the girl he is in love with. If this were a different genre, I'd probably react differently to the over-protective he-man types running around this book, but given that it's Navy SEAL-type romantic suspense, it's to be expected. (It'd be like complaining about magical elements in PNR.)

Hot hot hot Navy seals. There are parts of this book that deserve a 5 star rating but it was choppy for me. Still I cant get enough of this team, I mean really where do these guys exist lol. So this book was about Terri and Stan mainly. Terri was sexually abused and I love how Stan helps her and see's that she is afraid of men in general. A powerful and emotional entry to the series.

I read out of order but I wasn't quite lost as the 'new' charcters were either previously mentioned or described well enough that it was clear where and how they fit in. I must also say my quibbles with the series didn't decrease much to my chagrin. Said quibble is multiple flashbacks - they seem to take me out of the story, so I skip great chunks of them.

This book was by far my favorite of the early Troubleshooters books (though thanks to my library I haven't yet read #5). It was physically painful for me to put this town to do things like make dinner, go to work, and go to sleep.

The main story in this one is between Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok and pilot Teri Howe who find themselves in K-stan for a situation involving a hijacked plan and a young girl who terrorists believe to be a US Senator's daughter. It was this pairing that got me...I love...more

Another pretty good book by Suzanne Brockmann. I didn't think the romance between Stan and Teri was nearly as good as Tom and Kelly (unsung hero) but it was entertaining. In fact, the "relationship" between Stan and Teri almost seemed to go from 0 to 60 overnight. From he didn't ever think of her or pay attention while she was around to boom, she's wonderful, great, etc. And some of the action/dialog taking place in the middle of an airplane hijack rescue seemed strange but then this is a romanc...more

Troubleshooters #3 is Teri Howe and Stan Wolchonok's book, with a third WWII background romance and the beginning of Max and Gina's journey. And, after a long break, Sam and Alyssa end up in the same place and almost together, until an old girlfriend of Sam's steps back into the picture.

The only issue I had with this book was that, at first, I didn't realize that Helga was reminiscing about the past. And I got really, really confused!!! But the device that the author uses works, once the reader understands it. See, Helga is slowly succumbing to Alzheimer's Disease - she's slowly losing her ability to remember the present, although the past is like yesterday to her.

I learned about WWII Denmark - plenty of things I didn't know, such as the Danish didn't put up with the hatred of Nazi Jews. In fact, almost all of the Danish Jews safely got away to Sweden, because the country and its people didn't allow the Germans to force the Jews to wear the yellow stars or have their rights and property taken away. It was refreshing to learn... and it made me wonder why I didn't know such things before.

As for the romance(s)... well, there's nothing that I like more than seeing Alyssa (Lys) Locke and Roger (Sam) Starette together. And I finally understand why it takes so long for these two to get together... in book 6. Ugh - sad, but true.

As for Teri the Helo Pilot and Senior Chief Stan... touching, funny, heartfelt... all the nice things about romance. Although I thought I might have to knock their heads together!!! Thankfully, there are those around them willing to step in and guide the way.

The "heart" of the story is that terrorists take over a flight coming out of Athens that carries over 120 Americans and other assorted passengers. Many of the passengers are young college students in a touring band. While everyone's life changes forever, one of the students, Gina, has the most life-altering experience that started in the Athens airport when she encountered a crying American girl who claimed to have lost her passport & ticket for that same plane. Turns out that girl was Karen, the daughter of a U.S. Senator. When the hijackers take the plane, somehow they discover Karen was to be on that plane. Gina, who's the only one who really knows what happened to Karen, realizes that unless someone claims to be Karen (who's not there), the hijackers/terrorists will kill everyone aboard, one by one. So Gina pretends to be Karen.

Luckily for Gina, Max Baghat an FBI agent expert in hostage negotiations (and that we met in book 2), picks up on her story and flawlessly handles her. But he's dealing not only with "we don't negotiate with terrorists" from the U.S., but also from Israel. See, the terrorists want Osman Razeen released from the U.S. (we met him in book 2) and another of their leaders released from jail in Israel. But Israel doesn't ever negotiate. Helga is there are a representative, but... she's more intrigued by meeting her childhood friend's son, who turns out to be Senior Chief Stan.

Quite a book! I felt for Gina especially... it's not an easy book by any means. I hope that we get some glimpse into Gina's future - maybe? While Max is too old for her, a part of me wishes that they'd get together in the end...(less)

I think I've read most of the Troubleshooters series. Brockmann has a her formula and she sticks with it. Obviously w/the number of books she sold, it's a good one.

Our H/h are Teri and Stan. It's fun to watch them throughout the book. As usual, Brockmann doesn't deliver her "happily ever after" until the very end of the book and as always it's due to some type of disaster, near death experience or whatever but it's still a solid read.

Wow so much happening all at once some stories I loved some stories I got tired of reading so it balanced things out in the end. I enjoyed Stan and Teri's story very much- especially when Teri got some gusto and took charge;) I CANNOT believe how Sam's story is ending here after all this heartache but I'm happy to read his story in his book. I've taken my time warming to these books, but I can feel a strong addiction coming, particularly after reading this one. So much happened, with so many stories interwoven,a trademark, I'm learning, of an SB Troubleshooter book..
I find the plots getting stronger with each book. SB is not afraid to tackle tragedy and put her heroes and heroines through pain. I am haunted by this book, but understand why the secondary H/H's will have to wait before they will finally get their HEA's. After reading...more

I actually started this book and then had to take a break as I could see it was headed in a place I didn't care to go for the weekend. I will say this, it was a well written book if you like this sort of thing. I am not a fan of "Romantic suspense". Simply a personal preference to avoid this kind of book. Give me the real story without the drama factor of a love affair for my reading... Oh my LORD, this book was intense. I can't stop thinking about it.

The reason they chose that plane was because it had a U.S. Senator's daughter, Karen, aboard & they wanted to use her as leverage to make as big of a scene as possible - but Karen's passport was stolen & she was never able to get on the flight. When Gina, a student on the flight, realizes this & understands that unless these men find Karen, they will kill each & every person on the plane.

So, she stands up & says, "I'm Karen."

The brass balls this girl has absolutely inspires me. Even though the rest of the story was good, Gina's journey through her entire ordeal was the meat of it all. I loved how attached Max became, how he decided the government could go fuck themselves & (view spoiler).

The main romance in this one was Stanley Wolchonok (who's name I hate!) & Teri Howe. I really enjoyed Stan stand up for her & teach her how to stand up for herself - especially when she turned it around on him!Stan was a bit too self depreciating for my taste, but I'm glad he finally came around.

I was SO PISSED with how Alyssa & Sam's story was left. I'm sure Brockmann's got it under control, but I can't help but be upset at the time lost between them, JUST when things were getting good & feelings had been admitted. They're just so damn perfect for each other!

Even though I mostly skipped over the historical aspects on this one, I did love Helga, she was adorable. I think Brockmann did a good job of sticking us in the mind of someone who is succumbing to Alzheimer's even if it made me sad for my own grandmother who has already been pulled under.

All in all, a FANTASTIC novel with a gripping story, plenty of adrenaline, sizzling romance, intriguing plots. Can't wait for more of my SEALs!(less)
