A good start for an architecture enthusiast..
Scott Harris
This little guide is a handy reference to the architectural styles that can be found throughout the world. While experts in the field would inevitably find it superficial, it is nevertheless a wonderfully compact resource for potential travellers. Good descriptions with excellent pictures to help explain key elements that define architectural schools and styles.
a great overview and pocket guide to historical architecture themes. it's slim, which detracts from its ability to expand on each concept -- an index cross-listed for both location and style would have been ideal, though would have increased in the book twofold surely. but attractive and portable - both good things.

My only problem with this book was the amount of focus on revivalist movements in architecture without listing many aspects unique to the revival. It felt like reading the original section again, making it redundant.
This is really great with pictures. It helps you appreciate architecture.
