It should have been so much better than that. One character seemed to be nothing more than a super-rich frankly half-boring do-gooder. The other was just compulsively incapable of just speaking with her son, that she treated as if he were still 4 or 5 years old instead of 13 - honestly she deserved every small wrong doing her son did. She did not communicate with her former husband either, though they allegedly went to marriage counselling. And she did not try communicating with her new neighbor ...more
I love the plot but the constant switching between point of views is difficult
Another beautiful story by Sheila Roberts.

Poor Meredith is left to pick up the pieces of her broken life after the death of her husband. His death leaves her a single parent to her young son and his enormous gambling debts leave her without a penny to her name and no choice but to move into their vacation cabin, the only property she has left to call home. Or so she thought. When Jed Banks shows up at her front door one night to find out what she's doing in HIS cabin her life takes another nose
Sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Meredith moved her and her teenage son from her city home to her family's cabin in a small town after the death of her husband and losing everything because of his gambling debts. Shortly after getting there, she meets her neighbor, Jed, who 'bought' her cabin and land. So he takes legal steps to evict her then finds out that he was swindled by Meredith's husband and doesn't really own the land. Jed and Meredith are attracted to each other and ...more

Epitomizes what is wrong with novellas.
Too shallow, too trite, too quick. Just too many things wrong.

There was nothing horrible about it; there was just nothing good about it, either.

More of a promo piece for a teen program.

There were also formatting issues, misspelled words and run together words.
Enjoyed this short sweet story.

This is a short romance story set in Icicle Falls, WA which the author has used as a setting for some of her other books. Meredith Lange is newly widowed with a teen son trying to start over, but comes into conflict with Jed Banks regarding the true ownership over her cabin. Some of the character interactions seemed a bit simplified, but this was an okay read.
I did like this story... very nice and touching story about a Meresith whose husband dies and leaves her penniless and helpless and how she rises and makes a life her son and herself and soon finds someone who treasures her and respects her... thoug after some arguments and fights...

Truly inspiring

finding out about organizations like you Youth Assisting Youth can really help inspire others into doing more, and seeing that there are great organizations and places out there for kids in need of some help

I give this a 3.5. I would have given it more but struggled when he was willing to forgive her debt to him before they were a couple. The cost of a property is way too much money to be like, never mind! Other than that it was a good story.

This short story starts off with a a case of if you didn't have bad luck you would have no luck. This poor young widowed woman with a son feels she is a double loser already when it comes to men because the second man she allowed to get close to her heart wrapped his car around a tree in a drunken stooper. After, puuting her so far in gamblers debt she can't see the light of day. Her only thing left is the cabin gifted to them by her parents so she moves there with her son. Now to find out after ...more
After losing everything because of her husband's gambling problem and his death from a car accident Meredith has no choice but to relocate her and her son to the family's cabin in Icicle Falls because that is the only thing they have left or so she thinks. Jed Banks is starting a camp for the youth of the town to give them a place to be mentored by their peers. He has purchased several tracks of land and one that has a cabin on it. He finds Meredith and her son living on in and declares he owns ...more

Very sweet story

What a great story about a strong woman's battle to start a new life for herself and her child...and to allow herself to fall in love again despite the past.

sweet and short

nice story and great connection to YAY...good plot but too many incidental characters, that were introduced, but had very little interaction with the lead characters

A sweet romance that takes your mind to that cabin in the woods, with it's beautiful settings and mountains and a river that flows free. I enjoyed this short story. Great plot with great characters.

This is the kind of book where you read it, you know the ending and you forget it afterwards. It was entertaining although it got very boring in the end. Good writing though.

Good story line.

the editing needs work, but it's a cute story line. Not sleazy at all... just a good clean little book. Somewhat predictable however.

Pretty good story and even tho it was short(as harlequins are) the story was well developed. Good vacation read. Enjoy!

Great inspiration for this book. We need more of that. More organizations that help the youth, more people working on it, and more writers writing about it.
Meredith Lang's husband has gambled away all they had and then died in an accident. She takes her son, Leo, to Icicle Falls to a cabin given her by her parents to start anew
A cute little romance with plenty of cheesy moments. The premise is a little hard to believe but it's fine read and super short.

It was a short sweat story of finding the right love after heart brake.

Amazing story

This story reminds me of raising my own kids. These kind of programs do exist and work, they are great for pre-release!

This was a cute story.
Short easy read with character you can relate to. Easily could have been made into a longer book.
This book was a nice fast read. I felt bad for Leo and Meredith. To have someone basically steel from you to feed there addiction regardless of what it is, is terrible. I loved the part where Leo defended his mother in his own 12 year old way. The story felt rushed at some point and sort of lacking. Jed wanted Meredith and his camp. Of course you saw the route that issue was going to take. It was a good storyline but it was all very cookie cutter and fast.
The story was cute, a novells around Icicle falls. A newly single mom, who is unlucky in love moves her tern age son to I.F. to start over. A legal misunderstanding brings a handsome man into her life. It is a whirlwind courtship.
The editing was horrible and if it wasn't a favorite author I might have stopped reading.
It wasn't as good as I was expecting.
