Enjoyable book. The hero is conflicted, his best friend committed suicide but he lied to save his legacy and said his gun misfired. Now he has to face his friend's parents and ex-fiancee, the woman he has had feeling for, forever and kissed once. He feels guilty and angry, angry because his friend knew that the hero had lost his entire childhood, after finding his dad dead from a suicide and losing his mother mentally. He wants to not act on his feelings for the heroine, but plans don't work out...more

I really liked this book! While I was reading it, I found myself thinking about some of the Robyn Carr novels I've read in the past. But don't worry, Sexy Time Lovers... there is plenty of Sexy Time in The Rule Breaker. I think this book reminded me of Robyn Carr books because this one takes place in a small town inhabited by families that are very close. The feeling of community was definitely so...more
Roz ~ My Written Romance
Recently returned from Afghanistan, Eli is struggling with keeping the secret of what happened to his best friend Micah. That opening was so heartbreaking, especially not knowing at the time Micah’s motivation was.

Eli’s decision to keep his friend’s suicide a secret to protect Micah’s family & reputation must have been such a heavy burden on him. You can see how it weighs on him when he returns to help with the memorial to his friend – trying to keep this secret from the family. He doesn’t r...more

WARNING!!! The beginning of this book is very heavy. Be prepared. The Rule-Breaker is not a sweet sappy romance, nor is it a simply hot sex with a hot guy... You will cry; you have been warned.

Micah was the center of their universe. When Eli had no family to go home to, he went to Micah's house to be with him and his family. Shelby was Micah's high school sweetheart. She knew he loved her so much and she wanted to love him. But you can't force that kind of thing. But she always had eyes for Eli....more
Chemistry is so hot in this story, you can see the flames! The story about what happens after a solider dies, was heartwarming and truly a memorable story. This is not one that you will soon forget. The Rule Breaker is very well written, and has a nice mix of sexy and suspense. I loved that this story had two love stories in one…I couldn’t put this book down, it was just that amazing!

3.5 of 5 stars

I have to admit that I was first drawn to this book because of the cover. I saw the nicely sculpted man candy cover (what can I say, it caught my attention) and immediately read the book blurb and decided to read and review The Rule-Breaker. The Rule-Breaker is a quick read, but there is depth to the story that pulled me in. I wound up enjoying this contemporary romance.

The Rule-Breaker has a small town setting where everyone...more
3 Stars The Rule-Breaker is an adult contemporary/military romance by Rhonda Nelson, and part of the Harlequin Blaze Uniformly Hot! series. The Few. The Proud. The Sexy as Hell!

Army Ranger Eli Weston always does the right thing—even when it means defying orders. Now he’s back in town to help build a memorial in honor of his fallen military buddy. This time it’s not just about what’s right. It’s about ensuring that a secret never comes to light. A secret that only he and his buddy’s ex-girlfr...more
I enjoyed this one--definitely a good 3 1/2 stars. It had a lot more substance to it, I thought, than the other two I've read so far by this author--The Player and The Professional--and for that I've bumped it up to four. The beginning grips you right away with a bit of a surprise--at least I wasn't at all expecting it--and the story continues from there.

Shelby and Eli are another couple with a history, which I do tend to enjoy. There was a great deal of angst in their tale, due in large part to...more

Harlequin Blazes are HOT. And I got The Rule-Breaker as a Net Galley ARC, but this was not what I expected...

Eli is an Army Ranger (The back of the book tells us this, and it's mentioned no where else. I think the word "Army" is only mentioned twice) who is in love with Shelby - the fiance of his BEST-friend-like-a-brother, Micah - so Shelby is supposed to be off-limits, but they share a super passionate embrace at the engagement party at Micah's fami...more

Eli Weston was best friends with Micah Holland; they even served together in a war zone. Now that Micah has died under questionable circumstances, Eli is invited to Micah's hometown to help build a memorial to his fallen friend. Only Eli and Micah's former fiancee know the truth of Micah's death and they want to keep their secret. Unfortunately, Eli and Shelby Monroe are also working together on the memorial and they've always had feelings for each other. Consumed by guilt over their feelings an...more

Really interesting tale that had my attention the whole time. The pace was wonderful and the characters engaging. Great dynamic in the relationship that made it very believable. Beautiful storytelling that entertained the whole time!

It had really great flow and did the job of making me think at times. I love a book that taps into my e...more
Eil is home to protect his friend's family from the truth of their son's death and to avoid the feelings he has for his friend's former fiancé.

3.5 stars. A quick, simple, sweet, heartfelt read. I finished in about 3.5 hours. This book honestly made me laugh and cry and think about the love between family, friends, and those we've lost and long to honor and remember. Typically side romances bother me in books, but this one was sweet. I enjoyed all of the characters and found a good amount of depth to them. I only knocked it down to 3.5 rather than 4 or more stars because of its short length and its predictability. I knew all the who-dun...more

I love the men in uniform series, they never disappoint, I liked this one very much.
I really loved this book. The suspense of the "who dunnit" was fun too. It took me a while to figure out who was behind the "notes" which made the book a joy to read. I truly loved these characters and fell in love with the entire town.

This was a multiple hankie read. Ms. Nelson gave us an up close and personal view of what our armed forces have to deal with on and off the battlefield. The love story between Shelby and Eli was hot and tender. I won't give any more details for fear of spoilers, but suffice it to say, this is a not to be missed book for lovers of military romance.
I liked the story and the characters in this book.Sometimes with the Blaze series it can be a hit or miss.I wanted Shelby and Eli to give themselves a break.I think they took on too much responsibility where Micah's death was concerned.I liked that his family rallied around them and supported their relationship
Book Chatter-Cath
Not a bad read, but not really what I was expecting for a Blaze title.
It is a bit of a heavy read with all its references to suicide and the terrible things seen in combat that led up to that point.

Overall the romance is good, but not a blazing love story.
Natasza Waters
The hero is a little on the colder side. The heroine a little chilly too, but the plot was descent. Again the formula of using "should I fall in love with her if I'm going to die" infused in this story.
Nicole Naranjo
Honestly the beginning was heartbreaking, so be prepared. I loved this story about these two coming together. Eli is definitely swoon worthy!
This was a GREAT love story. I know I would have never been able to keep the secret. Eli had some heavy shoulders.
