Mother's parents divorced when she was young, her brothers staying with their father, she going with her mother who subsequently remarried. One of these brothers remained in Norway. The other, Reidar, moved to British Columbia.

Reidar married Ruth, a Canadian. They were childless. This may be why they occasionally sent my brother and me gifts at Christmas, gifts which always had some reference to Canada: Hudson Bay woolens, books.

I only met the two of them once, probably during the summer of 1966
