She escapes, wandering injured, half-naked, and hopelessly lost in the Colorado wilderness at the onset of a harsh winter. Brook is nearly frozen and almost at the end of her endurance.

Lance, a wild-looking reclusive man who has shunned society, li

I can't review this book. I am the co-author, so of course I like it. And I hope you do too!

I guess the best place to start is at the beginning…

The first 30% of this book was really hard to read. The authors switch back and forth between the two characters, Lance and Brooklyn. The reason it was hard to read was because one half was slow and unexciting (Lance) and the other half was gruesome and appalling (Brooklyn). Lance lives out in the middle of nowhere in a cabin in the woods. The first part of the b

First off I have to say I'm not much of a 'fiction' lover, I'm usually only into memoirs or biographies - but I have to say, the cover is what caught my eye on this one. And after seeing the promo's on twitter, I thought I'd give it a shot.
I found myself intrigued and caught up in the story-line from the get go. Yes, it does have its brutal parts, but that is a vital part of the story, and sadly, part of reality sometimes, as 'real life ain't always pretty' - we all know that. But love shines t

We are the authors so can't really review the book. But we hope you enjoy it.
First off I have to say that this book is nothing like I thought it would be, I did read most of the previous reviews but still thought that it would be an erotic romance. I couldn't have been more wrong and what I did get I think worked much better than what I was expecting.

Brooklyn (h) and her husband had been going through some tough times but she was determined to get passed it and make their marriage a happy and close one again. When her husband had asked her to go to some old used book sto

I admit, I stopped reading this book after three chapters. It was so gruesome and disturbing, so I removed it from my Kindle. But the next morning I put it back on my Kindle because I had to know what happened to Brook. And I'm happy to report that I'm so glad I continued on. After those first brutal chapters, what remained was a sweet, tender romance with a beautiful HEA. Lance was the sweetest, kindest hero with the perfect amount of angst and beautiful devotion to our heroine. This story has ...more

I can't believe that it has been a year since I read this book. I am now only getting round to posting my review on Goodreads. This story was so gripping that I had to post something.

It begins with a car-jacking gone wrong, an abduction and a woman who is gang raped but who manages to escape to the Colorado wilderness. This all happens at the beginning of a harsh winter.

This beginning combines to create the deep intensity of Betrayed. This novel pulled me into a nightmare that kept me turning t

I can't decide if I would recommend this book or not. I'm the type of reader that hates to leave a story unfinished whether I'm enjoying it or not. I'll even skim to the end to find out how the story wraps up, if I must, but I can't put a book away until I know how it ends. I was tempted to skim through this story. The first 25%-30% or so was hard to take. It switches back and forth between the hero's peaceful homesteading life and the heroine's nightmarish abduction and multiple graphic rape sc ...more

I have no idea what publishing company Wodke Hawkinson is signed to, but the book cover they chose looks like something you'd see on a Wattpad story, designed by one of the less talented cover designers that are floating around the site. But, like I said, I don't really know much about this company--maybe they're just a really small company trying to pick themselves up off the ground, which I respect. However, if Betrayed had been contracted to bigger company, you can bet your asses (excuse my f ...more

-All of these aches and hurts, she decided are badges of courage, not marks of dishonor. They are battle wounds, tokens of her survival. Inner Thoughts of Brook in Betrayed

Brook was living the good life in her gated community, in her big house with her rich husband Clark. The setting is Denver,CO. The book starts with Brooke on her way out to start the day and run some errands. Clark remembers that he needs to get this book for his boss as a gift, Clark asks Brook if s

2 Stars, or less really.. A big DNF for me.

I got about 55% through the book and was losing interest fast. I really hated that for two [2] reasons:

1 -- I had so much time invested in this damned thing [okay, only a few hours, but time is money and I ain't gettin' younger .. know what I mean]!!

2 -- Brooke, the poor thing. She was married to a man with no balls. He put her in a situation that got her into a terrible jam. There was an abduction and very graphically depicted, repeated, brutal assaul

Oh, dear. Oh, dear.

This review will be littered with spoilers. Read on at your peril.

I really do love well written, soul searching dark erotica, but well written, soul searching dark erotica this surely ain’t!

This had the potential to be such a great story. A wealthy and married lady (Brook) gets carjacked, abducted and held by a gang and brutally and repeatedly raped over the course of a few days. She manages to escape but she’s in the middle of a mountain range amid heavy snowfall but, luckily

I LOVED this book! It was one of my Amazon recommendations, after reading "Captive In The Dark" by CJ Roberts, so I decided to give it a try, and am so glad I did. I loved the characters of Brook and Lance. My heart broke with the appalling treatment Brook received when kidnapped (the scenes are very disturbing to read, yet necessary). It broke again with the gentle way Lance treated her, emotionally and physically. I was glad that there wasn't too many details on their intimacy

I had trouble with this one and the violence at the begining. But worth making it through. thank god the author wrote an alternate ending! The alternate ending was great so you have to get both if you are going to take the time to read this one. Just be warned that this book is intense and not for everyone. But the love story at the end is worth it when you read the alternate ending.

This book was extremely original.... It seems like something that could possibly happen... And I would hope after someone having suffered so badly, they would find an HEA. I read some comments about the brutal rape scenes and them being too much... I think they were written spot on, and probably not near as bad as they truly are. Don't let those comments deter you from an original story. They are somewhat descriptive but most books describe much more when it's consensual....

I nearly abandoned the book at 50%. The subject matter was obviously hard to think about but I got a bit lost between 30 and 50%.... I didn't feel like the book was getting anywhere. Then from 60 % onwards I got right into it and couldn't put it down. 3.5 stars

I really should stop buying books because of the cover.

Anyways, Brook is filthy rich (supposedly) and while driving her Ferrari she is kidnapped. Her abductors rape her from all angles and inside out. Gross.

The part of Brook captivity is really gross, disgusting, and, I found it to be very real. I mean, Hawkinson didn't hold back in the description and the language. If you have issues with women being raped don't read this book.

I found the beginning of the book (yeah, the captivity part) to be

OK, it is gonna be hard for me to review this book. Don't get me wrong I liked it. It's just I don't know. Ok, let me try to explain. This came across as a Dark Read when I read the synopsis. And it was, kinda. Let me try again. It started off as a Dark Read and as for the Dark read part it was GREAT!! The places the beginning of this book took Brooklyn was down right as bad as bad could get. I'm I held my breath at times wondering how this poor woman endured all that she was put threw. The men ...more

I can't say I loved reading this book. I liked it and enjoyed the story. I just couldn't come to terms with what Brooke went through and the outcome of the story. I know everyone heals in different ways, but found the end hard to believe with what she endured. About 67% into the book I had to throw my kindle down and walk away. I really was afraid for Brooke. Overall a good read. Going to read the alternate ending now!!

Recommended by a book buddy and I have to say initially I thought wow does my buddy not like me what is she doing to me lol.

I had so many moments where I nearly stopped reading this book not because I didn’t like it but because I thought I was having a panic attack and struggling to breathe HONESTLY.

This story certainly drew me in consumed all my thoughts, my kindle hit the sofa so many times in my anger at what Brooklyn had to endure.

It has taken me three days to start another book as I could

Second chance

I read Zeke and it was indifferent... I read this book thinking to give the author a second chance based on the reviews and again I'm indifferent. Is it dark? Some of it, very, most of it, no. The h went through some horrible crap to be sure and it is explained in exacting, though repetitive, detail. However, a few sordid scenes does not a dark book make. The lovey dovey far exceeds the bad and I'm getting really annoyed with authors advertising a dark book with all sorts of warning

This book had a lot of potential. That's the thought that ran through my mind several times as I read it and the first thing to come to mind now. The problems I had with it were balanced with positive aspects, and I strongly feel with a bit of tweaking, this book could have been 4 star material at least.

Firstly, the premise. An excellent premise. Woman becomes victim of brutal criminals, escapes into the mountainous wilderness to be rescued by a kind, handsome stranger who's living off the grid

I didn't think much of this book. It was not dark and too much romance for me.

It had a good storyline to it though, if only I was into romance.

The book had two endings, I only read the original. But if you end up reading the second ending, please let me know what happens, as I am curious to find out....

The book was in the females and males point of view.

I had to walk away a couple of times to regain composure....

Gritty, intense and so scary!! My heart broke for Brooklyn and the horror she experienced at the hands of her kidnappers. I don't do spoilers...but the first half of this book will break your heart, make you mad and if the scenes are hard to read...walk away and come's worth it to read the second half. And I love the alternate ending!! That was kick butt!

A very dark, realistic book. Loved the sweet love story. Didn't like the alternate end, though. I like the original end the best.
