The title is quoted from the text of this short, well-written, well edited, informative book about Southern culture. It is written in a folksy style and made me laugh throughout. The text comes across as genuine, not imitation Southern dialect written by a non-native. It is not a story, so don’t expect a story line. What it is is a quick tour of various aspects of Southern culture that differentiate it from the rest of the continent. The tour includes such savory elements as multiple dogs and ...more

I just had the pleasure of reading a very good short story about life in the south and mainly about life in the great state of Georgia. I’m a southern man myself, born in Georgia but raised just north in Tennessee. The things she describes in this book are true for any southern state. Like Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina and North Carolina and I will add Kentucky and southern Virginia. As I read the book I found myself laughing at some of the sayings and slang she used. I grew up with ...more

This little homage to Southern living is perfect for anyone wishing to revisit their roots in the deep South or those wanting to get a peek into what "Southern Hospitality" really means. B.S. Johnson not only does a good job in her collection of essays of conveying the warmth of the culture she grew up in, but does so in a way that will leave you hankering for a huge glass of sweet tea. So kick your feet up, sit a spell, and check it out!

This book is a nice short read on life in the South. It is humorous without looking down on the Southern way of life, especially the country folks. I grew up in the South and still live there, and I remember a lot of the things she talks about in the book like the cooking, manners, and things we did for fun. I won this book from Goodreads, and I'm glad I did. I think you'll like it too.

I actually read the Kindle edition of this book. A real funny and real short book about the South. Customs, sayings, and just plain fun about the South. If you want a quick laugh, this book is for you.
