I bought this book some time ago, after I read A Natural History of the Senses (which was AMAZING by the way). I started Deep Play, but rather quickly lost my thread of interest. I like to think of Diane Ackerman as sort of a feminist/ poet/ mad scientist. She's an interesting woman who's led a completely fascinating life. I'll let you know what I think of this one.

Read in March, 2008
Not exactly what I was expecting, but a good book none-the-less. The book itself seemed to be an exercise in deep play for Ackerman. While there there was some exploration of deep play in general, the majority of the book was devoted to her own experiences. While she did not specifically mention reading as deep play, I came to realize that it can be for me.

I love everything else I've read by Diane Ackerman, but this book irritated me. I couldn't even finish it.
