Admittedly, I haven’t had much time to read lately, and when I do, my first choice is often non-fiction. I'm a sucker for inspirational, self-help material. What I failed to realize is that I could find those same qualities in a good Christian fiction book. Sandwiched within a great storyline, interesting characters and a riveting plot, inspiration can abound and many lessons can be gleaned.

Who would have thunk?

Clearly NOT someone who hasn’t spent a lot of time reading Christian fiction. Boy oh

What a mess the poor character's life is!
I know this is fiction but I really felt for the poor main character, Alana. In a matter of moments her life is turned upside down and inside out. Who does she trust and why is this happening?

This is by far one of the best Christian fiction novels I have read without my toes curling as the author introduces Christian themes, thoughts and aspects to her characters. It was actually readable and believable. Phew!

I really like the various places the character

Characters: All of the main characters in this novel were extremely likable and felt real. Alana felt quite normal, and the fact that someone was trying to murder her raised my compassion for her even more. She was a woman who relied on her faith and live it. Often, she would be shown praying when things were hard. Jaydn was nearly larger than life, but he had his own struggles, faith being one of them. The two of them together were a great team.

Storyline: Tension, faith, mystery. All three of t

This was a wonderful book full of suspense and intrigue. Just about the time I thought I had it figured out, it would take a turn! Joanie's character development was well done, and her storyline was full of action and energy. I literally could not put it down! I read it in one day during my Christmas vacation and it was a highlight for my break!

I love the way Joanie weaves the gospel into her story. The characters' faith clearly plays a large role in how they face their many trials and adventure

Imagine being in the middle of your routine life when things take a scary turn and your life is in danger. This is exactly where Alana Candler finds herself in this debut novel by Joanie Bruce.

The tension is compounded through Alana's brother, Brad, the Police Chief who is short-staffed and struggling to solve a rash of murders. And a touch of romance is added through Brad's high school friend, Jaydn, who saves Alana from the first attack and cannot walk away from her in her time of need.

What can I say but ...WOW...what a great book. I haven't read one that riveting in a long time. From the Prologue to the end was non stop excitement. It was like watching "Murder She Wrote", "Quincy" and "Miss Marple" all at the same time. Joanie Bruce is someone to keep an eye out for in the furture. She has a writing style that is captivating, enthralling and exciting to read. She has a deep understanding of the Lord as well. Many of her passages and words struck a cord in my own soul and gave ...more

This book had me hooked from the beginning. It had all of the necessary components to capture my attention. It is an action-packed murder mystery and at the same time a beautiful, pure love story.

Character development was wonderful, and I quickly fell in love with the main character as well as the rest. The murder mystery kept me guessing until the end and it kept me up late at night trying to read *just one more chapter*.

I love how the author weaves the story of Salvation throughout the pages

I enjoyed this romantic suspense. It starts out with action right away. Someone wants Alana dead and she has no idea why. When her car is pushed into a river, with her in it, she nearly drowns. She is rescued by a good looking man who spots her car while driving by.

The plot of the novel centers around finding out who wants Alana dead and why. Alana's brother is the chief of police so he and his detectives are active in the investigation. There has also been a series of murders that the departmen

Joanie is a new author to me, and I am very critical of mysteries. I have a certain way I expect them to go, and can be harsh on authors who do not meet that criteria. I am happy to report that I loved this book! It was full of depth, emotion, mystery, plot twists, action, and suspense. All great characteristics of a great mystery novel to me.

I have to admit, at first I almost felt the way others did about Alana, maybe she really was imagining all these things happening. Her stories didn't add

*I received a free copy of this novel for an honest review*

What I liked: The moment Alana and Jaydn meet is funny and cute. I like their chemistry together. The author does a good job at adding seemingly subplots to the novel that really make a giant spider web-connection.

What I didn’t like: A lot of back story—it gave me the constant urge to skim. I like information but too much slows a story down. Also I was annoyed at how Alana’s brother handled her ex-boyfriend assaulting her. Even if the g

Joanie Bruce has written a fast paced, page turning romantic suspense novel.
This book captured my interested and held it throughout, despite the technical writing flaws which were few in number.

Normally, the first instance of "head-hopping" or "backstory dump" I would put the book aside and lose interest. BUT NOT this book...her writing style surpassed the flaws.

The faith of the main character Alana was evident and the growth seen in Jadyn was a smooth transition into a faithful believer.

Wow! A wonderful suspense Book. This had me hooked from the beginning. It is a real page turner. The action just keeps happening with lots of twists and turns along the way. The writing is wonderful. What I loved the most is the Spiritual thread throughout the book. Here are a few great quotes from this book,

"it's not God's taking away the trouble that glorifies Him -- it's out praise of Him in the midst of trouble. That's what glorifies Him."

Alana Candlers, Marked for Murder by Joanie Bruce is a Christian suspense novel. This book is full of intrigue and an action packed plot that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Alana is trying to stay one step ahead of a killer but, it seems that at every turn he is there. Can she overlook her distaste for tyrant businessmen and see Jayden for who he really is? Will her ...more

I really liked this book from the first chapter on, which was kind of creepy. There was not a slow spot in the book and I stayed up late a few nights hoping and wondering how Alana was going to be able to get a normal life again. Poor girl. This was a great novel of suspense and of a growing love interest and a growing faith in God when all seemed hopeless because some really evil guys were trying to kill you. I received this book from the author for my honest review and I look forward to more ...more

Excitement, Adventure, and Romance!

"The Reason for Murder" is full of nonstop action. You will be constantly on the edge of your seat as the author weaves a plot that is thrilling and continuous. I had a hard time putting this book down. I also loved the faith that Alana put in God as she faced the numerous threats against her life. The romance is very touching. If you love adventure, romance and thrills you won't be disappointed!

Thoroughly enjoyed this nail biting suspense book! Joanie's characters stay with you, well after the book is through. It's about a small town Police station and Alana is related to the Chief of Police. It's fast paced and you won't want to put the book down to see what happens next. This was my first time reading any of her books and now she's caught me wanting to read her next book.

Writing has always been my passion. After writing picture books for children and mysteries for teenagers, I finally found what I love writing the most—suspense books. As an avid reader, I felt the transition from reading to writing was a wonderful new experience, and I absolutely love the joy of pleasing others with words.

Living on a dairy farm, my husband and I raised three wonderful children. I
