My advice?

Never write a book on happiness.

As soon as you do, the universe will laugh at you and consider you an arrogant upstart and proceed to pull the rug out from under your happy ever after life. Well, that is what happened to me. That totally sucked.

However, there is a surprising upside to the downside of a devastating personal crisis. It turns out that the lessons

I really enjoyed this book. It came into my life at just right time. I could not believe this author lives 5 minutes away from me. I know the park she refers to at the end. Very inspirational! I had to email her to tell her how much I enjoyed her book and she wrote me back the next morning. Pretty cool if you ask me!

Elusive Little Sucker, My Entirely Too Long and Totally Circuitous Search for Happiness, by Anne Riley is a long title to a short book that is quick paced and an invaluable read. Honesty and humility shine through in this lively account of the author's life and the lessons she learned along the way. Wherever you find yourself on your journey toward happiness, you will enjoy this book. Annie writes with candor, humor, and poignancy about her lifelong quest to find happiness. Each chapter is a short vignette packed with delightful personal stories and the lessons she learned about life--and herself--along the way. You will find yourself laughing at her self-deprecating stories about growing up in a family of 12 and her experiences as a mom, a wife, and someone in the workforce, yet also ...more

I received this book for free through a Goodreads First-reads giveaway. This was a surprisingly good read. Anne Riley gives an honest and sometimes humorous account of her journey to find happiness in her life. After many life lessons, each documented at the end of each chapter, she finally narrowed it down to five little words. "Elusive Little Sucker ..." is a great instructional book for the rest of us; a list of do's and don't's in our own pursuit of happiness. And to remember that everything ...more

This was a very endearing and light-hearted book. I really loved delving into the author's personal life as she relayed the many aspects in her search for happiness. Her husband is excellent and she is very blessed to have him in her life. I am going to pass this book on to my manager to inspire her. By the way I won this on Goodreads.

Here we have a short but funny, insightful, trenchant memoir type anecdotally oriented travelogue-ish book that masquerades as a guide to happiness. Anne Riley is a funny, mischievous writer in the Erma Bombeck mode, a storyteller who reminds readers that even at a mere 130 pages, a book can be worth the effort, and very satisfying. Elusive Little Sucker is the nickname Riley attaches to happiness itself, as in, it took me a looooooong time to find the ELS. Riley grew up a Catholic kid, tenth of ...more
