We've all heard of Sybil the woman with 16 multiple personalities at one time or another. I found this book to be quite interesting, because it had her actual real name, but also depicted her actual life. While she was a bit of a recluse, she was an astounding artist. I also, sadly feel from the letters that she wrote to her friend, that she may have been taken advantage of by her physician.

This book is very interesting. It is very easy to read and understand. While the author, Nancy L Preston, narrates the details of her correspondences with Shirley Mason, aka Sybil, I love how she shares the actual communications with you. And by doing so, validates Sybil’s true existence. I remember someone saying to me they heard of some controversy about the truth of Sybil and her existence. How could anyone believe Sybil did not exist? Just because Shirley/Sybil didn’t speak on a talk show ...more

I have always had an interest in the woman named "Sybil" and was intrigued by the description of this book. I picked it up with the intention of reading a few chapters but before I knew it, hours had passed and I had finished it with tears streaming down my face. The beauty and love of the friendship between Nancy (the author) and Shirley (the real Sybil), the amazing women they both were/are, the entire story was moving and captivating. Sybil's World was so to be so much more than her ...more
