Love notes by Heather Gunter
I don't know how I can describe this book other than to say its amazing....The writer created a story that will make you cry, extremely pissed off, and giggly happy.
I absolutely love Charlie and Maverick's characters. Charlie has a tough life she is verbally abused by her father and ignored by her mother. Her father seems to hate her but Charlie doesn't understand why. Charlie lives a life of sadness, of self loathing, and Loneliness When a sexy guy pays her attentio...more

I could read their story over and over again. I loved Charlie and Maverick story. Their story pins me in my seat till the last page. Its very hurtful to find out the way Charlie's kind of living. His so called Dad hit her a very unacceptable verbal assualts to her, the way he attack her with his dick and abusive words hits me very low. And for her mother who didn't do a damnest thing to potect her, I could kill them in an instant the way they treated her. No son or daugther should EVER experienc...more

Wow. What an emotional story this turned out to be. I fully expected the angst that comes with books centered around characters in high school, but Love Notes was something altogether more than that. You can't turn on the news nowadays without hearing a story about bullying. This is a hot topic at the moment, but in Love Notes the bullying comes from the most unlikely of places. Charlie's own parents.

I'm going to start by stating that this book was Heather Gunter's debut novel and I have to say she knocked it out of the park. I thought this book was fabulous. I am a totally sucker for a sweet YA love story that is based in high school. Sometimes it is totally refreshing to read a book about the love and feelings in a relationship without all the sexual content interfering. With that said I will say that even though Maverick is to young for me, he still made my book boyfriend list. He was so...more
"...Looking up in the dictionary what self-worth meant. This is what it says:
Self-worth: the sense of one's own value or worth as a person; self-esteem; self respect
It struck a chord with me and made me think. I alone define my own self-worth. Not a boy, but me. No one else can make me feel good about myself. My own personal value is what matters, not what anyone else thinks or says. But mine."
Pretty much sums up everything about this book. Never, ever be told you are ugly or stupid or worthles...more

I'm a little peeved after reading this one, i feel a little mislead by the reviews. First and foremost I want to say that I really wanted to LOVE this book because of the other reviews on amazon are all five stars. Sadly I didn't, that being said I didn't hate it either I'm just kind of meh about it. My feelings on this one mostly stem from the fact that it all seemed very rushed to me. Everything from the friendship with Tori to the quick relationship with Mav, to the story itself. It didn't re...more
I think I could of spent months reading a story about Maverick and Charlie. It was such a refreshing story, although my heart broke so many times and my traitorous eyes pooled up tears. Such a good story about insecurities, friendships, love, loss, pain, heart break and yes abuse. That was NOT a good part, that broke my heart. I cringed at every nasty thing Charlie's father said to her and to know she was so weak and beaten that she believed it all and feared the repercussions of standing up for...more

What a fantastic book, from a debuting author. Everything about this book made my heart cry, smile, and scream for joy! I was so taken with each of the characters, they're so very real and relatable. The way Author Heather Gunter writes is refreshing and beautiful.
Charlie is a girl after my own heart. I was so totally wrapped up in her story, that I fell deeply in love with her. Life hasn't been easy for her. Her father is a complete tool, who belittles and berates her constantly. If it isn't o...more

First & Foremost I want to Thank Heather for giving me the Privilege of reading this ARC because it was Simply Amazing! I had tears in my eyes, I felt Charlie's pain as if it were my own and I wanted to hold her.
Maverick is just an Amazing guy that made me fall hard for him. He treats Charlie with such a Gentleness and Respect that is very rare now a days. He LOVES Charlie unconditionally and tries his Darnest to prove how much in so many Sweet ways.

OMG there are no words that can accurately express Love Notes by Heather Gunter. She has transcended the heart, emotions, of one girl and the lives she has touched without even knowing it. I truly could relate to the main character Charlie in the story. I was the fat, ugly girl in high school the only difference between us is I never had a Mav and Torie. All the emotions were made so alive with Charlie constantly not feeling worthy of love when you have JERKS (had to use the nice words) for pare...more
This book ripped my heart out. I had to take a day to compose myself.
Oh I just wanted to jump into my iPad and do some seriously bodily harm on Charlie's parents. Poor darling Charlie has lived a life in hell being verbally abused by her dad and just before college she starts a new school.
Where she finally has a new friend,Tori, she is sweet, sassy and funny.
But Charlie has caught someone else's eye, Maverick -star football player.

OMG! This book is so powerful! It made me laugh, cry, scream and yell, and even want to kick something at one point. For all her life, Charlie has been mentally and emotionally abused. Her life more than sucked. Then she goes to yet another new school and finally, on the very first day, makes friends for life... one of them being the guy she literally runs into. This book was more than amazing! I loved all of the characters. I was emotionally invested in the story right from the start. Even the...more
Really loved this story!!
This one hit very close to home and I hope a lot of people will read this book so they will maybe understand better that it is not easy for somebody to openly communicate about verbal abuse.
As in this book,I've got my HEA as well, thanks to my boyfriend.
Great first release (minus a little bit of editing that should have been done) but, keep up the good work ! Looking forward to read more from Miss Gunter and defo looking forward to read Tori's story in book 2.

OK my biggest complaint is the title and the description of the book. It makes it sound like this book is all about music and although Charlie listens to music on her ipod as an escape and is in Choir the music aspect is non existent. It's briefly mentioned here and there but I didn't feel the love of music in this book. Other than that I found the book was ok. I liked the characters and the plot was good it just didn't pull me in like I was hoping.
Tears and Smiles. That's my new name for this book! Wow! Not only is this an amazing YA love story, but it goes beyond. The message about self confidence is overwhelming. The undertones of abuse, and dealing with it. I had to stop and wonder if the author themself ever experienced any of this, because the way it was written is so in depth. It's deep, and I don't think any book has made me cry as much as this one did! It was just phenomenal!
this is a ya book for actual young adults, not full grown adults like myself who are fans on the genre. this story is very sweet, and i could see how it would help a teenager with self esteems issues, but it is repetitive, simplistic, and rushed. it felt like the author is probably a fan of the genre and picked parts from other stories they liked and then put them together, there is nothing original about this story.
This book was so sweet and sad all at the same time. I fell completely in love with it and all the characters. My heart went out to Charlie. I just couldn't put the book down and finished it in one sitting! I was surprised at how much I loved this book but am so glad i found it. Cant wait till the next book comes out so we can finally see Tori's story and hopefully get to see some more of Charlie and Maverick
2.5 stars
A great concept for a story but the fact that there were so many editing mistakes med it hard to immerse myself in the story. The author kept changing tenses meaning that I found myself having to re-read sentences over and over again to try and understand them.
One again and good message and plot line but the lack of editing and writing style lowered my rating and feelings about the book.

Loved the cover, it was what attracted me to it in the first place. More of a 3.5 really, it was missing something to round it up so i gave it 3stars. Nice quick read. Felt so sorry for Charlie, she's really had it tough. Can't wait to read the next one and find out what happened to Tori.
OMG this was a great book so touching I felt Charlie's pain threw the whole book it broke my heart maverick was awesome I loved him for the start yeah he made a mistake but I think that helped Charlie find her way and become stronger I'm so glad she cont the prologue and told us more on Charlie and maverick that was great and I can't wait to read about tori she was a great friend to charlie
I was looking forward to this book before it even came out. I one-clicked on the release day and read it in one sitting. This was a beautifully written story about an verbally abused girl Charlie (who is beautiful) Then there is Maverick the handsome football star who actually doesn't date just for looks.. It was such a nice change from the typical stories we have had out. There were the best friends Will and Tori who I loved and they were great additions to this book.. I think this was a very w...more
Fans of Heart On A Chain will gonna appreciate it.
The story is really good that I'm willing to know what's happening til the end even though the poor writing skills made it so cliche and agonizingly cheesy.

Whilst reading this book I wasn't sure what to expect, but boy was I damn pleased by the end of it. My heart went out to Charlie for having to endure what she did daily, internalising it all mad believing the cutting words her 'father' would say to her.
I loved Tori and her devotion to her friend and Maverick with his determination to make Charlie see what he could - that she was beautiful. There was a point where I really wanted to slap him!
I cried I giggled and absolutely recommend this book.
