The beginning of her story is rather difficult to dive into, with language that seems dull compared to her earlier writing. The spirit picks up a bit as she describes the people she meets, particularly in Moscow. Much of the book is set there, and offers a levelheaded insight into the lives of both the every-day and Privileged members of society. The best way I can describe her writing here is "contemplative," as she's constantly trying to understand the truth of Soviet society.
