In today's world it can be difficult to feel safe and secure. That's why in" Safe in the Shepard's Arms" Max Lucado offers a reliable source of safety and security from the twenty-third Psalm. He describes this psalm as "written by a shepherd who became a king-because He wanted us to know about a King who became a shepherd." With Psalm twenty-three as our guide, we can rel ...more

An inspiring, faith-building and encouraging look at Psalm 23. Beautiful images of landscapes and sheep mingle beside passages from some of Max Lucado's best published works [“Traveling Light” and “He Still Moves Stones” for instance] regarding the Good Shepherd and His sheep. It's a short collection based on this special Psalm, taken at a glance, but no less deep and inspiring. It would be a perfect gift for a struggling loved one or friend in any circumstance to give them hope, peace, and fait ...more

Perhaps I am growing cynical. I don't like this fact. I hoped to be more at peace and feel more comfort from reading this book, but it makes me have more questions and makes me want to understand more. Why do we have to endure pain, sadness, longing for peace? Why is there insects, snakes, sickness and weather problems, etc.? I have been told that without pain and suffering we won't appreciate health and happiness. I cannot understand! I've heard people say, following the death of a loved one wh ...more

Have read quite a few books regarding the 23rd Psalm, but no one does it quite like Max Lucado in this awe-inspiring Safe in the Shepherd's Arms. Accompanied by beautiful pictures, this little gem features descriptive prose for each passage and even some poetry. Typical of Lucado's writing, it reflects God's infinite mercy and the wondrous grace of our Lord and Savior like none other.

"Safe in the Shepherd's Arms" is an encouragement book built around Psalm 23. It's made up solely of excerpts from some of Max Lucado's other books, but the focus was on what we learn about God from Psalm 23. The version of the book that I have (the 2002 version) took each verse (overlaying a picture of sheep) and then had two to six pages with larger-type, widely spaced text relating to that verse. There were 16 sections plus an introduction and closing thoughts.

There were some nice insights (u

Lucado is a wordsmith and this collection of his thoughts about Ps 23 comes from 9 of his previous books and a poem he read.

Simple to read, thoughtful, devotional.

Sometimes books of this style are written on a wave length that I don't get. I liked this book because it drove me to faith in God on the most basic level. I lose hope when I fail to think and apply the anchors of my faith:
- God leads me, as His son;
- He guides me
- He gives me everything I need
- He protects me
- I can trust even t

Max Lucado is the ultimate vaguebooker. If you want information on Psalm 23, just read the Wiki:

This book is just story-time with analogies every other page.

The only actual Hebrew in it are these five words: rophe, nisse, raah, jireh, and shalom. Which you then need to look up on your own. 1-star garbage.

A wonderful lady in my church lent me this little book by Max Lucado. The words are very comforting, very readable. I can understand why so many buy multiple copies to give to family and friends. It's a little piece of encouragement in this dreary world. However, it must be noted that the book is not an original work. It is a compilation of excerpts from Max Lucado's other books organized on the framework of Psalm 23. Most of the time it works, but occasionally a passage may have only a tenuous ...more

Beispie: "You anoint my head with oil."

Good short little reflections on Psalm 23. Would make a good devotional or gift.

Excerpts from other books are used to help the 23rd Psalm become more personal ... Max uses his talent to incorporate sheep into our daily lives as only he can ... Also the devotions are a brief moment to stop & pause before the predators (traffic/wash/bosses/youngins/pets) trample our day ...

Safe in the Shepherd's Arms is very comforting and sounds great read aloud. Each chapter explores a different line of Psalm 23. Max Lucado's prose contains a poetic quality. Stylistically, he makes use of pleasing repetition. The messages in this book are clear and penetrate the heart, easy to understand and remember. Safe in the Shepherd's Arms is a perfect companion for any traveler in this life, and would especially appeal to those who struggle with fear, grief, and/or greed. The book is also ...more

This is a great little inspirational book. Each verse of the 23rd Psalm is represented by a new chapter. They are short and easy to read in the morning or before bed. Our family read a chapter a night. We took turns reading out loud. We also took the opportunity to memorize this awesome Psalm, one verse at a time. It has already brought me a lot of comfort when I am stressed over a situation.

Safe in the Shepherd's Arms is a wonderful book that will give you peace and inspiration with anything that may be troubling you. Max Lucado has taken The Twenty-third Psalm and given insight from his personal experiences, bible verses and other inspirational venues to provide thought-provoking guidance in living during troubled times.

A collection of writings from his other books selected to key in with the verses of the 23rd Psalm. Didn't care for this for just that reason. I like his earlier books that develop ideas more. I felt as if this was put together to satisfy a book contract but didn't really feel it spoke to the verses.

One of my absolute favorite books. Small book with short chapters. He takes each verse within the 23rd Psalms and makes it relevant and full of inspiration, hope and blessings. I have read it multiple times to help myself and have given it as gifts to friends with a burden and in need of comfort and solace.

I absolutely adore Max Lucado's books. This little volume is a treasure. One of my favorite now. I love that he examined each line of Psalm 23 and explained it in a way I never really thought of. This is a book to give to friends and family. I will definitely recommend to others.

Classic Max Lucado - excellent insight that includes passages from some of his former books. I borrowed the book from the library but enjoyed it so much I decided to buy a copy! I know I'll be reading it over and over for years to come.

It is a devotional book that is not something one reads through in one setting, rather it is one to read and then THINK about and see how it can be applied to one's life. I plan to read it again.

This is a very short read mostly made up of old and known passages from the Bible and the author's other works; rewritten to inspire anew.

“God is not going to let you see the distant scene either. So you might as well quit looking for it. He promises a lamp unto our feet, not a crystal ball into the future (Psalm 119:105). We do not need to know what will happen tomorrow. We only need to know he leads us and “we will find grace to help us when we need it” (Hebrews 4:16 NLT).” 3 likes
