First line:

"Kye's white shirt is drenched with blood."

Right from the first page, this good, clean book is action packed and hard to put down. Abby Johnson is Gifted with Sight and Healing. She is drawn to Kye who is also Gifted. Together they must stop a mad man who wants to kill all the Gifted.

The past and present woven together was intriguing. Well written without tons of romance drama, I enjoyed this story.

I did skim some of the history as to why Kye and Abby are Gifted but what I read I li...more

Nichole Giles is my YA paranormal fantasy goddess. Her writing is divine.

This is one trilogy that won't disappoint. And we're only into book 2!

I hope she is madly writing and publishing the third one because I have high expectations based on the first two.

In Descendant she builds the romantic relationship between Abby and Kye, which between normal teenagers is difficult enough. But they have the added challenges of having loved and lost each other over lifetimes, their Gifts, and the curse tha...more

This book was incredible! I loved how I wasn’t able to find a good stopping place because every time I turned the pages I was left wanting more! This is a book that you will definitely lose sleep over and in a good way!! I especially appreciated how the characters were inspiring and had a world to puzzle through with the heroine, especially, having a challenging journey to undertake along with her counterpart.

With the delectable romance, along with the exhilarating and artistic storyline, Giles...more
My Thoughts:

The Cover: The cover for Descendant is absolutely beautiful. A dark haired girl, a beautiful lily, and the title in beautiful calligraphy. It all looks so magical; I could not wait to dive in.

The Plot: Holy WOW!! This book blew me away. Nichole Giles has written an amazing tale of magic, history, intense love, and betrayal. I love the historical parts, Abby's visions and the lore, that add so much to the story. Descendant moves along at a good clip, spinning a tale of a love that is...more

This one is going to merit a re-read, friends. The rich texture of the lore that is being used, the fast pace of the action, and the array of characters are demanding that I spend a little more time in this universe; real life has made it difficult for me to give this novel the attention it deserves.

What I can tell you for sure: I love that Giles has combined typical elements of the paranormal genre, traditional legends, and fae tales into one epic love story that causes mortal peril that lasts...more

An interesting unique tale about a young woman who is gifted and the journey she takes on. I really found the character of Abby to be really interesting. This book was like an adventure that you get sucked into right from the start.

Right from the start, we see that Abby is in danger from unknown people. She is scared and rightfully so we learn when she suffers a tragic lost which causes her and her mother to move. Yet both Abigail and her mother feel like there were so many questions left unans...more

'Descendant' is a fantastic new young adult fantasy/paranormal novel that weaves a captivating tale that will have readers hooked from the first paragraph. It follows Abigail "Abby" Johnson as she moves to the small town of Jackson, Wyoming after her grandmother's murder in Las Vegas. Abby and her mother must be careful wherever they go because Abby isn't just another ordinary teen - she's Gifted with the abilities to Heal and with Sight. Because of her gifts, Abby and her family can never stay...more

Descendant slowly wove a spell around me the longer I read. What an enchanting story! Abby is a refreshing heroine. In the beginning after she leaves Las Vegas and relocates with her mother to Jackson, Wyoming, she tries to be a loner. Two girls won't let her, they instantly befriend her and try to draw her out of her self-created shell. Abby is grieving but she also has to live. One boy, Eric, tries hard to get her attention. She doesn't feel comfortable around him, but she is drawn to the popu...more

Page one and tears are already streaming down my cheeks. I don't even know these characters and yet, there I sat crying for them. By the middle of the book I feel completely conflicted. There have been a few scenes that didn't make sense, a few scenes I hated, and yet, I am still reading it. Because I can't stop myself.
Because clearly I am a fan despite the things I didn't like, the good outweighing the bad.

Nichole spins a tale that is so captivating, original, unique, something that doesn't fo...more
A review copy was given to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I love a book with a strong heroine, and this is exactly what Descendant had. Mixed with an adorable romance, I really enjoyed this one!

Abby is one of the Gifted, having gifts of Sight and Healing. After a traumatic event that rocks her to her core, she moves to seemingly normal Jackson, Wyoming along with her mother. Soon after, she is thrust into the deep, dark work of the Gifted after she meets Kye, a beautiful, b...more

4.5 STARS: WOW just WOW. When I started this book it was like BAM, EMOTIONS! Seriously the prologue and the first chapters really impact you. The feelings you felt with Abby were strong. I thought this would be an interesting book but had no idea of the amazingness of it! So I will try to keep this spoiler-free as i can :)

Abby is gifted and moves a lot. Her family is filled with gifted people and was under the guidance of her grandmother. Her latest move was...more

This book was a roller coaster of emotions. I was all over the place reading this and it started from chapter one. I'm talking like page 3 people and it didn't end until quite literally the last page. It's beautifully written and you could feel the emotions Abby was experiencing. Speaking of Abby I liked her as a character. Granted, she had her flaws and at times I really couldn't connect with her as a character but she was very wise for her age and I...more
That a great story. Abby meets a boy that everything seems to click and then the worst happens. Their days are number because of a curse placed on them. It was emotional in some parts. I cant wait to see what happens next.

Descendant is the perfect mythic, romantic read!

The book hits the ground running, and I enjoyed every moment of it. I love how the author takes us from the boiling pots of Yellowstone, to busy New York City.

Giles expertly weaves the visions of Abby's past in with the action of the present story. This background creates a depth to the story that makes the emotions that Abby feels more poignant.

I love the mythology peppered throughout the book, it was just the right amount to be interesting, but n...more

I'm a sucker for this kind of book (provided it's well written): an interesting blend of mythology and contemporary setting. I loved the unfolding relationship between Abby and Kye and the mythological elements were interesting. I was not as enamored with the historical flashbacks that provided readers with an explanation of why Abby and Kye were bound together, and what they were fighting against. (I suppose it's because I didn't have the same connection to the historical characters)....more
An absolutely wonderful Young Adult novel full of love and suspense and charm. Also, a quick, easy read with characters to fall in love with and a plot full of twists and turns that make one hold her breath and grasp the book hard with both hands. Lots of good set ups and payoffs, not to mention evil antagonists--plural--who make the reader wish she could climb inside the book and throttle them by the neck, good and strong, permanently! Well written. Love the elementals and paranormal gifts. Can...more
Gabby (What's Beyond Forks?)

Full Review at: What's Beyond Forks?

Abby is a strong character, but she's pretty dense at times. As a reader, you will have things figured out long before she does. I yelled at the book a few times because of this. The story had me frustrated more than once, but it was unique and fast. You have an enchanting romance, evil bad guys, fairies, magic powers, and some humor.
Loved this book. Fun read.
Open your eyes to another facet of our world in Descendant and you'll be sucked into an adventure with Abby and Kye that will explore the power of gifts, courage, and love. This story has it all--adventure, romance, and self-discovery. I love Abby's strength and abilities to see things that others can't. Giles has crafted a page-turner that will leave you looking for Abby and Kye hoping for more of their story.
This was a fantastic read with not the typical paranormal teenage romance that is on the bookshelves. The character Abby has the emotions of a teen-age girl trying to figure out who she is while fitting into a new town and school. Then mix in dreams of true love, loss and past lives and you've got a story the keeps the pages turning. It's a book I enjoyed and one I can highly recommend to young and old.
Wish I could give it 3.5 stars.

Another young adult supernatural novel. I did tend to figure things out long before the main character which is why it's a half and not a full 4th star, but it still kept my interest and I wanted to keep reading.

It was recommended to me by a friend who is the author's sister-in-law.
More supernatural powers here, but I enjoyed the flash backs and how the present characters were tied to ones in the past. Very clever.

Nichole Giles had early career plans of becoming an actress or a rock star, but she decided instead to have a family and then become a writer. Writing is her passion, but she also loves to spend time with her husband and children, travel to tropical and exotic destinations, drive in the rain with the convertible top down, and play music at full volume so she can sing along.
