There was a Mt. Hunger near the town where I grew up in central Vermont. I imagine it was named for the time told about in this story. I don't remember when I first heard about 1816 and Frozen-to-Death, but it was a long time ago, and it wasn't from a book. It must have been such a terrible event in the lives of Vermonters that the memory was passed down through the generations. Lee Kemsley's historical novel does a wonderful job of recreating the people and events of that awful year. We see it ...more
