Very funny light fiction for the roughly nine and up crew. Set in Scotland and an imaginary near-Arctic island, Nordbergan.

Years ago, seven young academics discovered the island and decided to found a university on it. Unfortunately, one of the seven (Professor Roderick Murdo) turned out to have evil plans regarding the human race, and all the professors left after it was discovered Murdo was experimenting on children in some unspecified evil way.

And now Murdo has reappeared, and kidnapped his...more

The book The 7 Professors of the Far North is very interesting.Everyone should read this book because once you start to read it, you will not be able to put it down. It is an adventure story. The story is about Sam who is going to his aunt's house on a holiday.Just before he went to his aunt's house, Professor Ampersand, his mother's friend, invited him to his house for a stay. Professor Ampersand adopted two children, Ben and Zara. while he stayed there, Professors Ampersand's friend came to h...more

I read the 7 Professors on the recommendation of Owen. I enjoyed the book, but i think Owen may have underestimated my reading ability because it was quite an easy read. but nonetheless I thought it was a fun read. It had some cool ideas and the characters were likable. The story was about three kids who traveled to the arctic circle to rescue their kidnapped uncle. Overall i thought it was a good book.

This was a bit of a slog. I read it aloud to my kids, and while they enjoyed the bits about poor Marcia, the other children were poorly characterized and uninteresting. We felt like there was too much description of gadgetry and too little action. And we didn't need to hear about every trip the children made to a bathroom. The climax was exciting, but the conclusion took too long. At least as a read-aloud, this book was a disappointment.

I read it. And I love it so much!! I liked the story well. I didn't understand every words, but it didn't bother me at all, since I wanted to know the story, the end :))

It gripped me, and hardly could put down the book in the last 2 days. The story is mysterious, adventurous, thrilling. I was fascinating about travelling on wonderful machines like the secretious underground trains (I like this idea, a kind of private train, knowing only some people, and can travel on it very fast), ski-boats, su...more

This is a very enjoyable light adventure read, with some fun nerdy twists. It fits nicely in the genre I love about how smart kids respond to interesting events, and the adults that either guide or provoke those events.

Jason liked this one well enough to read a second time. Enjoyed it both times, but not as much the second time (first was in 5th grade, which was age-appropriate).

I can't really speak for the overall quality of this book, but when I read it in elementary school, I loved it. It was exciting with a fascinating concept and fun plot.

Josh LOVED this book. This was a perfect read-aloud for a 10-year-old boy, with its crazy inventions, a suspenseful kidnapping, and the children discovering an underground railway to get to the Arctic to rescue the professors just in the nick of time.

I would recommend this book to everyone. It's a really easy read, but the science in it is a little complex.

This is an action-packed adventure that takes Sam and his new friends, Zara and Ben, on a rescue mission to the far north after an evil genius ex-colleague kidnaps their uncle and his 5 colleagues (each a caricature of the absent-minded professor). With only one clue dropped by one of the professors, they are able to use their wits and well-stocked rucksacks to find their way to the remote location. There isn’t much in the way of character development, but it was a fun read.

Loved the writing style here. The opening paragraph is instantly different and free flowing. I was intrigued by the various mechanical contraptions and the emphasis on all out gung-ho adventure. It reminded me of Tin Tin and Edin Blyton. Nothing wrong with that. Old fashioned in a classy way. Oh yes, the illustrations were just the ticket.

I really enjoyed this book. It had a lot of fun, fantastical elements. William (age 8) loved it, too. The kids in the story had to attempt the rescue of 6 eccentric scientists from another eccentric and evil scientist. They used all sorts of sciency-fancy things to do it. What's not to love?
Debbie
ages 9-12. Sam (age 11) Zara dn Ben must rescue 6 professors from an evil mad scientist who wants to re-engineer the entire human race. The professors are being held on an island in the middle of the Atrci Sea. It's a lively little adventure story. A bit far-fetched at times.

Professor Ampersand, an absent minded inventor, and his six colleagues are kidnapped by a mad scientist who plans to create a race of super humans. Eleven year old Sam and the professor’s niece and nephew attempt to rescue the scientists.

Three kids have to save their father and other professors that have been captured by a crazy professor practicing DNA replacement on a remote Artic island. Exciting

This was actually a really amusing book. My favorite part was the plot with the girl. Much more interesting than everybody else stuck in the middle of nowhere.
