In My Apprenticeship, Maxim Gorky (1868-1936) gives an exact account of his own adolescence. After the death of his mother, fourteen-year-old Alexei Peshkov ( Gorky ) sets out to earn his own living. First he is the errand boy in a shoe shop; then, in turn, a draughtsman's apprentice, a dishwasher on a Volga steamboat, and an apprentice in a studio where icons are painted. ...more

completed the 2nd book of Gorkhi's autobiography, it's written like novel, a best book everyone should read it ,
if I say it's only a autobiography then it'd be unfair it's self help book as well , well he didn't write what to do or what not to do but he showed his experiences in his life...

This book made me fight with myself, so I finished it Friday and didn't comment until Monday. The story is dreadful, yet through it you can better understand from where these people come.

Overall I decided this book is likable since Gorky writes well - see, it's not that the story is poorly written, but rather it describes less-than-perfect scenarios. (Also I may generally think lesser of teenage guys…)

It's convenient to see snow all around me while perusing Gorky - the main way I was able to o

This is an autobiography of Gorky's adolescent years as a poverty stricken orphan, when he was passed around between relatives and lived a 'threadbare, depressing existence'.

He was forced to work as a menial in a shoe shop and was bullied by his cousin there, a brute whose secret pride and joy was a macabre crypt under a tree trunk containing a sparrow he had killed.

Maxim destroys the crypt, enraged by his older relatives callous explanation for his shrine: "He flew into the shed and I put my ca

Maxim Gorky's life kind of sucked, and was filled with terrible people. Maxim Gorky decided it would be a good idea to let everyone know about that fact. Maxim Gorky wrote a three book autobiography to tell everyone about it.

My Apprenticeship is the second novel in the series, exploring his adolescent years. We watch him travel around Russia performing various odd jobs, alternately working in an idol merchant's store, being "apprenticed" to his uncle who designed and built buildings, or going up

Gorki ilk gençlik döneminde yaşadığı buhranları, hayatın anlamını ve nasıl yaşanması gerektiğini bulmak isterken yaşadıklarını anlatıyor. 19. yy. Rus proleteryası ve mujikler hakkında yerinde çözümlemeler yapılmış. Halkın alt kesminin düşünce yapısı kusursuzca ortaya konuluyor.

He served in a shoe shop as a salesman. Got training as draftsman in a relative’s house where he had to pass through continuous reproaches. He worked as a dish washer in a steamer.

“A belief which is based on force of habit is one of the saddest and most harmful phenomena of our time-as in the shade of a stone wall everything new grows slowly, becoming stunted, lacking the sap of life. There were too few rays of love in that faith, too many insults, too much animosity and too much envy, which always goes hand in hand with hate. And the light emanating from that faith was nothing but the phosphorescent glow of putrefaction.” 1 likes
