Ah, the "good old days", recreated in the pages of a book with high ideals and valuable life lessons hidden in the lore of the outdoors. From applied trigonometry, to swimming, to cooking, to sharpening your offical scout knife, to surviving under a branch shelter,this book takes one back to a past that seems to be lost in the modern world. I think that such ideals as taught by the Scouts, well sometimes more idealistic than realistic, point to something we've lost along the way to todays ...more

A fascinating glimpse into a given institution's nature at a given time, and the culture of America. This edition was my uncle's, given to him by my grandfather, and I found it buried in my grandmother's garage when we helped her move this last summer. For that reason, and others, I am mostly interested in the Handbook for its historical and sentimental value, and as a tool in my writing toolbox. (How better to get into the mind of someone radically different from myself?)
