OK - word. When you take a very alpha male and you need the reader to believe he is a real alpha he cannot be more emotional and feelings oriented than most of the women I know. I really thought Blayde was a female in a guys skin. I get it is a mate thing - but geesh - let the man keep his balls! I mean BOUNTY HUNTER..HELLO. He should be one hard ass m'f'ing dude!

It was so sweet and sappy in places you could bottle it and label it maple syrup with out a problem. "Honey", "baby", "sweetheart", "

I didn't really like this one. Stopped reading in the middle. It didn't pull me in. The use of too many endearments, and way Blayde treated Ryan, etc. Also, for a scifi book it didn't feel like one. They spoke in a very human way, with modern slang and such. I just couldn't get into it.

Well, somehow, - somehow, I imagined this book would have more to it then it does. I can tell you it doesn't.
While the plot line is interesting - porn star framed for the murder of his best friend that he didn't commit by a corrupt government, escapes his home planet, goes undercover but is found by a werewolf bounty hunter who he is the Mate of, - the actual book isn't.
The pacing is rushed, exposition is in abundance and the characters weren't that good. Perhaps it would have gotten better but

I make no apologies for being a devotee of Shannon West, I just can't get enough of her books! I am slowly but surely, working my way through her entire collection and the "Love Slaves of the Alpha" is the start of a new series for me. And boy or boy! what a start it was, I adored it! We are introduced to the "Balenescu" family - who are lycan wolf shifters. This book concentrates on "Blayde" (love the name), though we are introduced to the other members of the family as well. Blayde is a "space ...more
This was a terrific start to a new series by Shannon West. While there are characteristics similar between Blayde and Marco(from the Dark Hollow series), they are sufficiently unique to make the new series stand apart. Really enjoyed the dynamic between Ryan and Blayde.
This was more like 3.5 stars for me. I liked the theme as it was right up my alley, the big alpha male and a smaller mate. However, I could have done without the internal dialogue. Most of it added nothing to the story and often sounded awkward. Along with that the author made several descriptions that didn't come off as she intended. Most notably in my mind was this. The story itself I didn't find too bad. BUT the relationship between them I HATED. Ryan's never given to impression of wanting a master type relationship and this just comes across as SLAVE and not in a good way to me. I mean, the way described, mates are stay at homes and please their alphas. Since I've always considered myself as a strong independent (mostly) woman I really can't imagine SERVING someone as making ME happy so this doesn't make sense to me.

Then there's the fact that Ryan was
I didn't like it. It was really info-dump-y. I mean, book 1. Okay. I'll cut you some slack. It was...melodramatic. Well, it wasn't that bad. It's consummate pulp and I suppose should be read as such. Really heavy on Poor Communication Kills. There was weird stuff. And more weird stuff. And I dunno. I wasn't horribly enthusiastic about it. The relationship sucks, they clearly hate each other even though they can't, and no one's really entirely happy with the situation, but they get to fall deeply ...more

- The mixture of foreign and familiar elements in the story amused me. There are slave auctions and worm holes and planets at the far reaches of the galaxy, yet Blayde lives in the “last house on the left hand side” of a cul-de-sac in an alien town with stores and a school and a clinic and a community center.
- The idea that someone would love you so suddenly and so much that he wo
If you are expecting a slave story as the title suggests with at least dubious-consent, a long way until/or not the "slave" likes/can stand the alpha, youll be looking long in this book. Or as I... very short.

Add to that the very beautiful Lycans who have long blonde hair, bright red eyes, can turn into a wolf, need the slaves blood once in a moon AND can put a venom into him, so that he likes his "master" (who is just an idiot btw) more. To top it off, his master dies when the "slave" leaves -

This is what happens when I do 'sleep shopping'. I thought I was buying another in the SOLD! series by Anitra Lynn McLeod and boy was this a mistake. I'm sorry to say I didn't like this one at all. Shifters in space - which should have been amazing. There was nothing new, in fact everything that has ever happened in every other shifter book was in here and not done well. Oh and the Alpha said, "baby" "honey" "sweetie" and every other love name every other line. I can't check to see how much I pa ...more
2.5 Stars Same old, same old. I have read this same type of story a hundred times, sometimes written better and sometimes worse.

I liked it. Quick easy read with some hot sex scenes. Some parts were annoying, but its a typical alpha in charge book.

The beginning of this book was pretty good.
I usually shy away from alien/space books...but just as I was thinking I might have found a went down hill.

I liked Ryan in the beginning, but I quickly lost interest when he kept dropping his pants and just agreeing with everything. His little token protest were lame. It just fell flat after the official claiming of the mate. There were a few things I didn't the having to feed Ryan his blood on a regular basis...WHY? It was never
I'm very sick with this author. She isn't respecting her readers...
she must think we are very brainless for writing such nonsenses!!
You are trapped by a man, who will send you in jail for murder, He kiss you 1 time and you submit?? he force you in a D/S relation you don't want, and you don't fight???

This is an awesome start to what I hopewill be a pretty long series from ms. West. There are a good number of characters in the Lycan family that she can call on for the books.
I felt that the story was well written and quiteinteresting. It kept me well entertained until close tothe end which for some reason started to bore me a little.
I read other ppls reviews stating the similarities between Blayde and Marco from the other wolf shifter series. I dont notice a similarit between the characters

An okay sci fi read. Blayde was a little too alpha for my taste. I would consider reading the other books in the series.
I really liked this book. I always love the bigger alpha male and the smaller mate. I think it was done well. Sure there were some editing issues but for the most part they didn't throw me out too much like some of these books can. There were also things said that didn't push the story forward but again, not too much. I think the story line flowed well too. i liked that Ryan resisted and wasn't just a push over. I even liked that he was frightened a few times as well. I also liked that the Alpha ...more
I'm sad to say this is a DNF for me. Filled with way too many recaps and contradictions.

There are some really interesting components to this story so it could appeal to lots of people. We have our m/m story line. Then we add a shifter or two. We top that with said shifter being from another planet. Then we set it in the future and add a murder mystery. It might seem to be too many threads but Shannon West does a great job of pulling all the elements together into a great story with just enough wit and humor to make these guys seem "real". Great start of a new series.

1st book in the Love Slaves of the Alphas. I love Shannon West's writing style and this book hasn't changed that for me.
Our Lycans aren't just a bunch of werewolves from Earth, they are an alien race. Big, bad and dominant...yummmmm.
Ryan is a gay pornstar, Blayde is a Lycan bounty hunter sent to bring to justice the young murderer only to find his mate.
With a little drama, danger and some hot M/M sex this is a good read and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

With a series title of Love Slaves of the Alphas, you kind of know what what you're getting - Alpha wolves, domination, lots of sex! It is not BDSM domination, just a me Tarzan, you Jane sort.
It was OK, I'm not so much into futuristic stories but other than the spacetravel there wasn't much different really.
The Lycans stayed mostly in human form.
Not a favourite type of story for me, but it did pace along quite quickly. 2.5*
Reminds Me A Bit Of The "Dark Hollow Wolf Pack" Series And I Can Swear It Has A Few Phrases From Those Books Which Makes It A Bit Disappointing I Love Shannon However The Way The Writer Continues To Use The Same Passages From Other Books Is A Bit Annoying.

On Another Hand I Do Like The Book It's Good Not A Bad Way To Start A New Series But I Would Hope For New Unique Paragraphs Or Phrases And Not The Same From Other Books

I actually really liked the idea behind the whole story and this is the main reason I'm giving 2 stars. The story really has some potential, but unfortunately the relationship between the two main characters feels very unrealistic. Not sure yet if I'm going to continue this series!
I don't know why, and, frankly, it's a little embarrassing, but I love a slave auction. This one didn't go the way I thought it would, but it actually turned out to be more entertaining than I had expected. It was a pleasant surprise.
I know what I'm getting when I read a Shannon West book and this one did not disappoint. Nothing too deep or emotional, just a fun, fluffy read and great start to a new series.

This was just ok for me. I just couldn't get the characters, Ryan was too whinny and Blade kept coming off as a complete overbearing jerk.
