A deal made to be broken

Everything about Alex McKnight was hard -- hard body, hard heart and damn hard to ignore. Yet architect Ellie Hart couldn't deny her immediate attraction to the dark-haired, handsome contractor assigned to complete the Mercy Medical Center with her. Ellie traveled with her own emotional baggage and there was no way she was going to fall so fast for

Very good book. Ellie has come to Blackwater Lake as the architect for the new Mercy Medical expansion. She is trying to restart her career after falling for a coworker who turned out to be married. While she is attracted to Alex she makes it clear that she won't get involved with him. When she falls and breaks her ankle she finds that she is dependent on him for a place to stay while she recovers and their mutual attraction only gets stronger. When Alex proposes a short term fling she figures s ...more

I’m from Texas, and I was annoyed with how many times Ellie said ya’ll when speaking to only one person. Ya’ll is a phase we use when we are speaking to more than one person. If the author wanted to make Ellie sound more like a person from Texas, you could have used the phase, Bless your heart, or yes ma am, no ma am, We are big on manors in Texas. We also call everyone Mrs, followed by the persons last night. The author was right about one thing. Most people from Texas are stubborn. I did like ...more

I liked the storyline of this book, but the language was annoying. I'm from the south and have NEVER heard anyone say y'all when speaking to one person. It made the heroine seem like a caricature of how a southern person speaks. Also, some of the slang used felt awkward and out of place. It was directly in violation with the image we were supposed to have of her being a well-educated affluent woman.

"Top Pick! Southwick's touching Big Sky romance blooms beautifully amidst small-town meddling. Readers will enjoy equal doses of laugh-out-loud humor and tenderness, along with page-searing love scenes." RT Book Reviews, rated 4 1/2 stars

I liked this, but there were a lot of things that bugged me. I felt like there was no real connection to place and people. When Ellie went back to Texas, it really drove off the road for me. I felt a distinct disconnect.
