New parents will want to add this title to their home library book shelves although it won't spend much time on those shelves. Instead, they will find themselves reaching again and again for the volume in order to share their own childhood nursery rhymes with their own children while also possibly creating memories and new favorites for them. Not the best Mother goose I've seen (FYI: best is still Richard Scarry's - with classics like "Dr. Fell" and "Taffy was a Welshman Taffy was a thief"). But who can resist David McPhail's illustrations? 3 stars for words, 6 stars for pictures. Everybody say awwwwwww...

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Each nursery rhyme is written exactly as I remember it from childhood. Every child should have this in his or her home library!

Reading Mother Goose as an adult really makes you think about what you are reading to children. The captions in the drawings make the book! (Especially Peter Pumpkin Eater!)
