When I read the original Halloween Jack & The Devil’s Gate, I was immediately drawn in to the steampunk world created by Mr. Gallowglas. (You can see my review here.) The character who becomes Halloween Jack is written to be genuinely clever and engaging, even a little scary. However, I honestly wasn’t sure if a fairy-tale/legend story like this one would translate into a sequel.

Well, I was wrong. Curse of Frost is easily as much fun as the original. It’s been seven years since Halloween Jac

I have read both this book and the first in the series, Halloween Jack and the Devil's Gate. I really liked them both. They are advertised as steampunk, but I found them a mix of old Irish legends, a light-hearted bargaining-with-the-devil kind of wives' tales, and a little magic and scifi of some cool imaginary weapons (I guess that's the steampunk part) thrown in.

This was just as fun as the first one, if not more so. There are times I think Jack is too clever, but it still works somehow. He knows what he's doing and why he's doing it. The entire book was fun and adventure from beginning to end.

This book was just a riot to read. I went through it in less than 24 hours as it's less than 200 pages. A great weekend book and a great follow up to Halloween Jack and the Devil's Gate.

I met M. Todd Gallowglas at a local Renn Faire earlier this year. I am NOT a fan of Renn Faires. On paper they look like something I'd be totally into, but in practice I generally find the whole thing oogy. With that said, Mr. Gallowglas took the main stage and proceeded to do his act, he is a Gleeman, and he tells stories. I don't know why, can't put my finger on it, but myself, and my 2 year old son were captivated. He took the time after his show to talk to my boy and I, and my son learned ...more
