This book was not absolutely horrible but I can't think of much good to say about it. I guess there were a few interesting parts, but I never got into the story. I haven't read any other books by J.A. Jance so it is possible I am missing the depth of the characters because this is part of a series, although it seemed like the novel was written so it could stand alone. My major complaint is one of the two main characters: Sheriff Brady. Why is it that any time a woman is law enforcement that she...more

Her stars Beaumont & Brady united in Jance fan club Dream!

Think how much fun it would be if Grafton's Kinsey Millhone went to visit Paretsky's V.I. Warshawski and they solved a crime together. Jance has done it with her two leading characters! After 15 Seattle-based (Jance's home) Detective-extraordinaire J.P Beaumont stories, and 9 Arizona-based (Jance's former home) feisty Sheriff Joanna Brady stories, our author has brought the two crime solvers together in a suspenseful and complex plot...more

Another Joanna Brady murder to solve. This is the tenth book with this character. I picked it up at the used bookstore without knowing how far down the story chain this was. I was looking for number three and the British shop owners haven’t heard of a computer. So I grabbed one on the strength of its cover art.

Jance has a parallel series of novels that take place in Seattle. The Brady novels in Bisbee. ‘Partner in Crime’ is where the two main characters meet from each series. After twenty-some b...more

This is the first book I have read written by J.P. Jance. Her series was recommended to me by a friend because she knew I was from AZ where some of Jance's books/mysteries take place. I love reading mysteries, a nice change from more serious novels and subject matters. But, as much as I liked reading it, I didn't feel the story was as captivating as other mysteries I have read. What is particularly interesting to me is that the story took place in Bisbee, AZ, a city where I went to leading works...more

In this book Joanna Brady meets J.P. Beaumont and together they solve the murder of the day. I have not read any of Jance's Beaumont mysteries yet, so this was a pretty good introduction to him. I liked the way Joanna was presented in the third person and Beaumont in the first person, providing a cue as to who that part of the story concerned (although, since this was a Brady mystery, I sometimes had to re-read a first person paragraph to clarify that it was Beaumont's story). This story also de...more

Good series set in the country area where my daughter, Jana, lives. I like the characterization and the ideals. The mysteries are good puzzles, realistic, with a hint of jeopardy and adventure. They are for mature readers, with some language and frankness about feelings and sexuality (very tasteful and not usually explicit). This novel's a special treat because Jance's other detective, JP Beaumont, is an integral part of it (his 1st person narrative alternates with Jance's usual 3rd person focus...more

I found this detective tale in rural Arizona to be pedestrian and not very engaging. The is 10th in a series of 14 featuring Cochise County Sheriff Joanna Brady starts with the poisoning murder of an artist just before a gallery opening. An investigator from the Attorney Generals office of Washington State reveals that the woman was a whistleblower in witness protection during preparation of a big corruption case against a private corrections contractor. The love-hate dynamic between the two on...more

I picked up Partner in Crime CDs from the local library. I've seen Jance's name about for sometime (she takes up over a shelf at the local bookstore), and I'm trying to get into the habit of listening to books during my commute. On that note, I checked out the CDs and gave them a whirl.

To start with, the readings of Debra Monk and Cotter Smith were phenomenal. They were able to bring me into the story and the views of the characters. The tones of their voices depict the characters accurately. Mo...more

In Partner in Crime J.A. Jance brings together the lead characters from two of her series - J.P. Beaumont and Joanna Brady. This book was a hand-me-down and the first Jance novel for me. It might not be the last, but I'm not ready to jump into either series headfirst.

Joanna Brady is a sheriff in the small city of Bisbee, AZ. She and her teenage daughter live with her second husband (an aspiring mystery-writer/househusband) on their ranch. Her mother is annoying and irritating but her former in-l...more

I enjoyed this book, but not as much as other Jance mysteries. I think the problem was the dissonance created by jumping from Beau's point of view told in the first person (which I greatly prefer in crime novels since I like to read them up close and personal inside the skin of the detective) and JoAnna's, which is told, coldly and impersonally, in third person. Tell them both in third person or, way better, tell them both in first person, but as it is the two different styles in the same book j...more

This was an audio book that I wouldn't recommend, unless you really like a dramatized format. The two readers, one male and one female, were just a little over the top. I didn't like their affected voices or accents (the drunk guys were particularly bad). There were even sound effects like burping! The readers also switched off too often. When they were in conversation with each other it was like he said, she said. Ew.

I thought that this story just took itself too seriously. There was no humor o...more

In this crossover book, Joanna Brady and J. P. Beaumont work a case more or less together. Beau is now working for Washington State Attorney General, Ross Connors on his Special Homicide Investigation Team, unfortunately known by its acronym S.H.I.T. and is sent to Arizona with information for the sheriff, Joanna Brady. Both the case and the interaction between the two are interesting. Another good J. A. Jance book.

This brought both of my favorite series together. Even if it was for only one book. Jance did a wonderful job of keeping her characters true to her other books of them and finds a way of making them work together. They're both stubborn, and set in their ways of doing things. Beau is very clever and finds his own way around town while Joanna and her department wishes he'd just leave. They say opposites attract....

I bought the first JP Beaumont series for $.99 and I've enjoyed them enough ti keep reading the series. They are not the best books but they are a good book to go to when I want to read but don't know what. Partner in Crime has been my least favorite of the series so far. I only have a couple more books to go before the series is over and I'm hoping this isn't how the rest of the books are going to be.

Eh. This book really didn't do much for me. I'm not sure if it's because I have no context for either of these characters or their series, or if it's because the book jarred me when it switched from third person (Joanna Brady's world) to first person (J.P. Beaumont's world), if it's because the J.P. Beaumont character wasn't very likable, if it was because the plot/mystery/"suspense" of it sort of fell to the wayside for more in depth background/present on the characters' lives, if it's because...more

what i learned from this book is that sodium azide is lethal. it is found in air bags, but when they inflate, it is turned into a non=lethal hydrogen gas.

this book unites two of j.a. jance's main characters, sheriff joanna brady and j.d. beaumont from washington state who comes to arizona to help with an investigation. it is quite entertaining.

I really like this series with Joanna Brady, the sheriff down in Arizona. This one combines the sleuthing capabilities of Joanna's staff and J.R. Beaumont from the State of Washington (Another series by this author). The characters in this small community of Bisbee and their interaction are so well drawn that the pages turn quickly.

I listened to this one as an audio book... I liked the fact that a male read for the male protagonist and a female for the female protagonist. The 'crime' was not very well developed, but I nonetheless enjoyed the story. The relationships established through the process of capturing the killer kept the story moving forward.

This 2002 novel brings together Seattle Detective J.P. Beaumont and Sheriff Joanna Brady of Cochise County Az. Both characters have a series of their own from this author, which I have been reading in order. In this one they work together on a crime that involves both their jurisdictions. Very good,I enjoyed it.

Jance decided the main characters from her two series (Joanna Brady and J. P. Beaumont) should meet and work a case together. It didn't work. I'm not a fan of J. P. Beaumont or Jance's style of writing in that series. But I love her style of writing (third person) with the Joanna Brady mysteries.
Dave
Two engaging investigators from two good series by a consistent author merge in a plausible story.

Both J. P. Beaumont and Sheriff Joanna Brady are complex, sympathetic, fallible characters. Having them work together in a story told from each character's limited view worked for me.
Donna
I really liked this for several reasons, it takes place in AZ so having lived there once upon a time I am familiar with some of the places where the action takes place. No bad lanuage or gross sex, but lots of action. You get to know the people and their lives outside of work.

In Partner in Crime, an artist from the West Coast is dead, and small town sheriff Joanna Brady must investigate the case. When the Attorney General's office thinks she is not up to the task, they send detective J.P. Beaumont to assist in the case, setting up immediate friction between the characters. This is an entirely forgettable mystery. The storyline was solid enough. There was nothing terrible about it, but there was also nothing that stands out either. It's the type of novel that you will...more

really a good story. I listened to it and was completely entertained, not just by the story, but by the performers as well. A man and a woman read it and each did a different voice for each of their characters. Good story and characters also.
Karen
I really liked the audio version of the this book. The readers were incredible. One for JoAnna and one for JP. Excellent job. The book, although solved early on, carried on with enough interest until the end and it's normal "Mystery" twist.

Jance wrote this book with the main characters from two of her series- Joanna Brady and J.P. Beaumont. It was the first acquaintance I had with Beaumont. He's not as personable as Brady but I plan on reading that series also.

I waver between 2 to 3 stars on this one. I decided to give it the 3 stars because I feel like if I had read this at a different time of year I would have enjoyed it more. Also, I didn't realize until I was halfway through it that it is part of a series; and actually combines 2 of her characters from two different series. If I was more familiar with the characters from their series I probably would have enjoyed it a bit more. Also, because I was reading this during my busiest time of year I kept...more

I love the Joanna Brady series and this book didn't disappoint. Somehow I missed this one as I read the other later books. I must go visit Bisbee, Arizona so I can see for myself the location of this series.

One of the best! Jance puts Joanna Brady and JP Beaumont together to solve this crime. Luckily, they stay out of trouble (but just barely) I was glad to find out more about Ann Corley.also.
