3 stars for this edition, 4 stars and special mention for Jake Kerr's "Perspective". Full disclosure, Jake is my husband, but "Perspective" was the strongest piece for me.

Definitely glad I started backing Fireside Magazine, and regretting that I haven't been keeping up!

The story by Damien Walters Grintalis is the most chilling short piece I've read in a while, and the one by Stephen Blackmoore is icing on the cake of another fabulous issue.

Three wonderful collections out there, and I only get to read one. This grates. So, first, angst...

I wanted to read #1 and #3 (pre-paid subscription) but I'm too slow --hey, I *travel* and it's incredibly frustrating to discover that my subscription has expired, so, Weightless Books, phooey to you. The Heart of the Story by Kat Howard ***
A weird, poetic tale about where stories come from.

Scarred by Damien Walters *****
Grim, chilling horror telling of a damaged woman and her coping mechanism.

Perspective by Jake Kerr ****
A wonderful tale of grief and a strained father/son relationship.

An honest Mistake by Brian J. White, Steve Walker and Frank Cvetkovic **
Eh, this comic is not my favourite thing ever.

Rhapsody in Blue Shift by Stephen Blackmoore. ****
Paranormal mystery on an interstellar pass
…Kat Howard's beautifully rendered The Heart of the Story is an expressive exploration of the story and the muse and, as I've come to expect of Howard's work, a masterful use of metaphor and language. Damien Walters Grintalis shows off her stuff in Scarred , an emotional look at a woman's battle with an old addiction… Blackmoore's Rhapsody in Blue Shift is a very entertaining science fiction story involving George Gershwin. Perspective , a story about an agoraphobic and his wayward son by Jake K ...more
