It is the time of the Dark Ages. A gravedigger works in the moor late one night to assemble a grotesque book by the light of a torch. On its papyrus pages are the spells of a demon to be bound in the wood of a Sorcerer’s Tree. This book is pretty amazing. Not only does the author write well and has obviously researched his subject matter, but he brings some fresh ideas to the table. If you have grown tired of reading horror novels where the characters are all cookie cutter perfect and the events/manner of death and terror have all been seen before somewhere else, may I recommend this book to you. This is a book I personally would never read. Horror is not my thing. But being click happy on Goodreads one afternoon, I accidentally marked and rated a book I had not actually read. So, by way of an apology to the author I bought it and read it. It has taken me a fortnight to work out how to compose my review. This book should come in a plan wrapper with one word written big across the front of it - WARNING! Because you see we have had some snow days here lately and the inevitable happened, no ...more

I was a bit intimidated by the size (555 pages) of the book, so it sat for awhile before I tackled it. For it's size it was a quick read. I read it in three days. The basic plot is an evil book and the potential ascension from hell of a demon. I would haved condensed the first conversation between Peter amd Thorn. But it was a great read from beginning to end. I received a copy through Goodreads First Reads.
