I love this cookbook and I am happy to add it to my cookbook collection. The recipes inside are easy to make and delicious too! The photos soon will have you drooling and the information inside is helpful and the stories are all so interesting.

Where can you find a recipe for Alligator Stew in other recipe books? If you were looking for Yumesetti under what category would you find it? Have you ever heard of Morning Glory Muffins or Spiced Pretzels? It's all here in this wonderful cookbook.

Simply Delicious Amish Cooking by Sherry Gore, 2013

Little known fact about Sherry Gore:
"I had a chicken named Henrietta who liked to sit on my shoulder when I was cooking."

That's what I would call "fresh eggs" in the kitchen!
A side note: I absolutely love Lydia Dabcovich's drawings in her children's book, Mrs. Huggins and Her Hen Hannah. Loved reading this book outloud!

I have a copy of Sherry's first cookbook, Taste of Pinecraft: Glimpses of Sarasota, Florida's Amish Culture

If nothing else, this book will possibly teach you that there is a small Amish and Mennonite community in Pinecraft, Florida, long away from their core areas in the United States, acting as a bit of a virtual melting pot of Amish and Mennonite cultures from around the world, contributing various recipes and influences along the way.

This book is the author's consolidation of recipes from friends, neighbours and the local community, brought about through frustration that there was no real local re

As I read Simply Delicious, I felt like I was cooking at home with my mother, my grandmother and my favorite aunt. You are not just cooking, and you are not doing it alone. You’re in your kitchen sharing recipes and stories; sharing tips and little nuggets of wisdom; learning how to cook and learning a little bit about history, and different places, and people. This is not just a cookbook; it’s a history lesson about the Amish and their community in Pinecraft. It’s also full of their humor, ...more

Simply Delicious Amish Cooking is just that — simply delicious! It is spiral bound and reminds me of the church cookbooks that I have so often seen in my mother and grandmother’s kitchens. Sherry Gore has put together a mouth-watering compilation of treats that is sure to please everyone in the family. Peppered between the goodness are stories and journal-like entries from the Amish community of Sarasota, Florida.

The broad spectrum of recipes Gore covers is incredible. There are goodies for ever

This looks like an excellent cookbook! i can't wait to try homemade root beer!! I have wanted to make it ever since reading an Amish fiction novel where the family made and sold it, so that one popped out right away! I have read lots of complaints from reviewers about using items like jello, pudding, and canned fruit, etc, and also about recipes not being healthy. In my experience, (I live in an Amish area and am Mennonite), typical Amish and Mennonite cooking is not meant to be healthy! Most ...more

The turn in the economy has prompted me to look for more traditional solutions for things. I've found different ways to use inexpensive ingredients and products to replace many of the pricier brands and items I was using in the past. All the old school wisdom of our elders and tricks and tips from the older generations are coming back into play.

One area that I've had trouble finding simple, inexpensive ingredients to use is cooking. It seems like every cookbook I have or recipe I see online uses

I’ve seen a lot of praise for the author of this cookbook from various Amish-Fiction writers so I was excited to have the chance to pick it up. I held off on writing my review until I tried a few of the recipes which might I add—were DELICIOUS! I wanted to get a picture of the recipes we tried but unfortunately the muffins were gobbled up before I had a chance!

I thought this cookbook was great but I will be honest that I’m still slightly confused over cookbooks in e-book format. I understand

I thought the background information at the beginning of the book was very useful. We actually lived in Bradenton, FL, worked in Sarasota, and went to school in St. Petersburg for a few years and I honestly never would've guessed there was an Amish Mennonite community there. Sarasota is a very busy, expensive town where many travelers stop to buy high-priced items or bask on

I just love this cookbook! Most of the cookbooks that come into my home end up being given away. I require *super simple* recipes! I don't overly enjoy cooking, but I do want to give my family a nutritious meal that didn't take me hours to cook, and then hours to clean up. I'd rather read! ;) I need recipes that don't require lots of ingredients that I'll probably only use for one recipe. I want ingredients that are in lots of recipes I like, so there's a better chance I won't end up throwing ...more

This is a review of Simply Delicious Amish Cooking by Sherry Gore.

It is a compilation of recipes from different Amish/Mennonite communities. Interspersed throughout the cookbook are short stories of things happening in communities in Florida and from other places. So what is so special about Amish cooking. On page 16 it mentions that "Amish cooking is traditional American cooking at its best, and like America itself, Amish cooking includes a lot of international flavors. Amish cooking is defined

I was a tiny bit disappointed with this book. Not so much with the contents but the presentation. For some reason the lovely cover made me anticipate tons of color photos of Amish life, farms, kitchens and what not, but all it offered was a black and white photograph at the beginning of each chapter. Other than that the contents is exactly what it says on the cover, recipes and short stories or memories told by various people. Interesting but nothing Earth shattering either.

The recipes are organ

Simply Delicious Amish Cooking is as interesting a book to read as it is a cookbook. Sherry Gore of Pinecraft, Florida has compiled a wonderful, easy to use cookbook with recipes gleaned from family and friends. It's very much like an old-time church or community cookbook. Interspersed with the recipes are thoughts and anecdotes and true life tidbits from those who have shared recipes.

I love the spiral binding that allows the book to truly lay flat, but also has ease of turning.

Simply Delicious Amish Cooking by Sherry Gore is simply delicious. I can’t wait to try some of the recipes. I love the stories that are incorporated throughout the book. It begins with why she wrote the book, and it tells about who the Amish and Mennonites are. The recipes look easy enough to follow and use basic ingredients that would be in most kitchens (well with the exception of the alligator dish). There are little stories added with some of the recipes along with tips. There are a few ...more

This was an interesting book to read. The first 20 or so page gives the reader a bit of information about the book and such.
Then it goes on with different Amish recipes (some I am looking forward to attempting at the least) …
The recipes included in the book range from the breads and rolls to the soups to seafood to pies and so much more.
I was surprised to see the black and white photos of some of the Amish that the book had it in, since the PA (Lancaster Area) Amish really dislike to have pictu

This is a lovely cookbook with beautiful photos and endearing stories about the Amish in Sarasota, Florida. The stories are interesting and the recipes are simple and delicious. I like that the recipes don't include a lot of processed food ingredients in them or strange gourmet ingredients that are difficult to find in stores.
