It's Valentine's Day, one of Geraldine's favorite times of year! She gets out her very best glitter to make cards for her family and friends at school, trying extra hard to think of ways to showcase all of their special qualities. But when Gerry gets to school and realizes she accidentally took a folder of Daddy's work papers instead of the cards she worked so hard on - oh ...more

This is a beautiful book about a young girl, Gerry, who loves Valentine's Day. As part of The Very Fairy Princess book series, this addition shines. It talks about love and what Valentine's Day is supposed to be. Gerry works to tell all the people in her life about how much she loves them. She does this by making beautiful, hand-made valentines. When she accidentally leaves them at home on the big day, she is heart broken. But, in true fairy princess style, she uses it as an opportunity to sha ...more

What a fabulous self esteem booster book for young children! After I read it only then did I realize who wrote it and it was no wonder it had the special 'air' about it. Julie Andrews has compation toward just about everything she does and those she's around. The little girl in the story wanted to make everyone in her classroom and family special even the little boy that teases her all the time. She had a special way of making everyone feel special around her. Good lessons that children can use ...more

Reading notes:

- A little long for a Storytime, though you could maybe pull it off with kids aged 4-6. However, it would make for a wonderful story to read one-on-one. The language is a little more complex than your typical picture book fare which reinforces my recommending it to the slightly older set, but it's very flourished and has regal undertones that fit the protagonist's personality perfectly. It also has fun little quips that will make adult readers chuckle.

- A very appropriate story for

Gerry is very excited – Valentine’s Day is coming (which is a Fairy Princess’ favorite day of the year)! She works her hardest to make the best, sparkliest (is that a word?), Valentines ever for her classmates. She puts her perfect hand-made Valentines in one of her Daddy’s green work folders to keep them safe. But when she gets to school, there is a BIG problem. The folders got switched and her very perfect Valentines are at work with Daddy (how UN-sparkly)! Gerry thinks fast and solves her pro ...more

I like the “Very Fairy Princess”, she makes me happy. So, of course getting a copy of this Valentine’s Day edition was worthy of a good squeal and giggle. Gerry is still the “Very Fairy Princess”. And it is time for her to make Valentine’s Day cards. After she makes them, she borrows a folder from her dad so that they won’t get ruined. The next morning she hurries to dress in all her heart clothing. Then she rushes to school, only to find out that she grabbed her dad’s work folder instead of the ...more

They often say not to judge a book by its cover, but I think in this case, that would be entirely appropriate! My daughters were absolutely spellbound by the glittery artwork gracing the cover of this beautiful book, and they were equally pleased to dive into this wonderful story. They immediately identified with Gerry and her love of all thins sparkly and glittery, and they especially loved that she sings while she works (something my daughters can definitely relate to). They laughed at the sce ...more

I like this one even better than the original Very Fairy Princess Book. Cute message about be kind and seeing the good in other people. I liked how positively the main character handled the upset of not having her Valentine cards to hand out. It was good to read about it to my girls and to be able to point out how even though Gerry was sad at first she held it together and came up with another great way to share something on Valentine's Day.

Really easy read for kids. Almost in every sentence there is new vocabulary and its in a big print so you cannot miss it. Its great for kindergartners, its fun to read too. Its about Gery who is a fairy princess. She wants to make everyone smile at Valentines Day. The gifts that she makes are misplaced, so she ends up making her friends smile, by telling them what she likes best about them. Really good book for moral and social skills too.

Gerry the fairy princess really goes above and beyond in this story when she speaks aloud the traits of her classmates thaf make them "sparkle." This measure of kindness is something I hope all parents take the time to encourage in their children.

I love the explosion of pink in the illustrations. And I love the subtle switch-up of the valentine's with Daddy's work papers. The text could have been a bit trimmer, but this is a fun, girl-friendly Valentine's Day book.

My 7 yr olds review: I liked the book because the story makes everyone feel good. The book teaches us to be proud of who we are.

Cute, girly Valentine's Day story. It would be fun to write a class chart about why we love our friends after hearing this story.

Read for Library StoryTime. Such a sweet book.

I always eagerly look forward to reading this series, and I love Valentine's Day so I figured this one would be right up my alley. I did enjoy it but unfortunately it's my least favorite in the series so far... it lacks a little of the 'sparkle' that makes the series burn so bright. It's also a bit cliche and rushed. I recommend it to those already devoted to the series.

This is my first Julie Andrews book, but now I am going to have to read the other ones. Gerry (A girls name if you can believe it) makes specials Valentines day cards for each of her class mates, but ends up bringing her dad work folder instead. What will she do?? I love the Creativity, kindness and fun Gerry brings. She is sincere and I like that! Fun Book!

A very nice Valentine's Day offering, especially for K - 2nd grade kids. The kind of story that kids will relate to: Gerry arrives at school with the wrong folder: the folder with her dad's papers rather than the folder with the valentine's she intended to give to her classmates.

Another IUS student picked this book to read during group time. The girl forgets her V-Day cards for her classmates, instead she tells each of them individually how much and why she likes them. Perfect book to read on V-day to a kindergarten class.

In this sequel, the fairy princess forgets her valentines for the class party at home. She must think quick about what to do. So as a valentine for her classmates, she tells each one of them what makes them sparkle.

I love these books. While they are in someways just fluff I love how the princess is so confident and tries to make everyone else find their sparkle. I just think that is important for any child or adult

What a delight to meet Julie Andrews tonight! She was so pleasant, did not rush everyone along, and held a little conversation with my daughter....who was completely star struck! She was absolutely lovely!
