I have to start by saying I don't read much poetry, but I really liked this collection. It's a quick read, but these are the types of poems that you can read again and again. Many of the poems are very brief, only a few lines, but somehow the author has managed to say so much in a few words. There are four sections to the book, Chaos, Nordic, Darkness, and Joy. Each section contains a selection of verse relating to the theme. Helle Gade writes with passion whether she is writing about something ...more

This author is new to the poetry world, this book proves she belongs there. The words cut deep where they count. The style she writes resonates with the soul. Everyone can relate to these beautiful and sad words. I love them all, so it's hard to have a favorite, but MOTHER touched me..this book will touch you to. Thank you for sharing your skill with us.

Author Helle Gade is new to publishing but you wouldn't guess it from the complexity and potency of her writing. Silent Dreams contains poetry of a unique style, with religion and Nordic beliefs wove into the author's own experience and pain. It is modern as it is classical. I felt reading the author was very in touch with her heritage and not afraid to share it with an English audience. There are even a couple poems in her own language which I loved as well. This book is a game changer; it is ...more

Recommends it for: Anyone who appreciates poetry
I won this copy of "Silent Dreams," written by Helle Gade, and at the time I had no idea what a treat this collection of poems would actually be. The emotion put in to each and every poem was evident, and the poems covered a vast spectrum of emotions, from elation, to sadness, love, and heartbreak. I believe that "Watching" might just be my favorite, but then I hesitate to completely put one poem over another like that, because all of Helle's poetry is worthy of recognition, and this is what ...more

Silent Dreams is a collection of poems written by Danish writer,Helle Gade. The anthology is divided into four parts: Chaos, Nordic, Darkness and Joy and covers a swathe of emotions. I particularly enjoyed the Nordic section, especially “Thunder and Mischief” and “Warrior”. Many of the poems in the section entitled “Joy” are wonderful also.

When I taught teenagers, many years ago, I would love to have been able to use this anthology for appreciation and stimulation - there is so much fantastic ma

I found all of the poems to be very insightful to the author's own thoughts and feelings. I found love, pain and longing mingled between lovely words and sentences.

I bought this book because of the good reviews and have to say that I was not disappointed with it. I'm very picky with everything that I read, but I was impressed with these poems. They were deep and calming and made me think, which are things that I always love to take from my reading. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys poetry or is in need of a delightful quick read.

I'm not a big poetry reader. I know little about proper form and style. I only know what moves me, and Helle Gade's words do just that.

My favorite thing about Gade's poetry is the way she captures life with chronic illness. The pain, the mind-melting fatigue, and the isolation, mixed with the hope and perseverance, come through with a special kind of beauty. In these poems, I feel I've found a kindred soul.

This is the author's first book of poetry, and a compelling start to her writing career.

This collection of poems is a very quick read that is easy to read in just one seating. Maybe it is that I don't really know a lot about poetry, but the poems didn't really touch my sensitive side and didn't make me feel anything. They read too prosaic to me, and they could have used one more round of edits. The huge grammar mistake in the acknowledgements page was like a slap. The poems were well-crafted and they show talent.

I most say when I first started reading and writing, I never thought in a million years I would write a poetry book, but sure enough as anything in life, I gave it a try and really enjoyed the words and contents in this book, in fact I enjoyed it that much, that it inspired me to write my own poetry book that will be coming out very soon.

Thank you so much, Helle, for sharing with us all such beautiful well written words with us all. I wish you the very best for the future.

Hi, my name is Helle and I’m from Denmark.

When I discovered poetry, I never dreamed it would have such an impact on my life and me. Today I couldn't imagine living without it. Writing it has a healing effect on my soul and if I touch just one person with it, then I'm happy.

I have published three collections and a book with all three in there. I'm currently working with a bunch of brilliant authors
