THis book is very insightful to one of America's most interesting people. I'm glad to have read this very open & honest book. I would actually giv it a 31\2 as there are a few chapters that are important but very dry. Over all an informative & important book about an important chapter in american history regarding the freedom of worship.

I took an Honors US History class from Richard Bushman during the short time that he taught at BYU.
This book is a detailed, well-documented history of the Prophet's life which also provides a historical context for his teachings and early Church history.
