Sacred Mountains is supposed to be a collection of stories from various cultures, all of which demonstrate elements of shamanism. From the title, you’d be right in assuming that the element the author finds most compelling is the significance of the Upper World, as represented by earthly mountains, in both shamanism and folklore. It’s a great premise. Unfortunately, Berman has neither the organized thinking nor the intellectual chops to make it work.
