This is an amazing book. In a nutshell, it is the volume I wish I would have had when I first started our design firm. Instead, we had to learn many of David's lessons ourselves, and that's not ideal.

This book is a great mix of practical, nuts-and-bolts information, along with great commentary and overall high-level perspective. Where Success By Design stands above other "how to run a design firm" books is in its depth -- not just dealing with the practicals of client contracts or creating billa

3.5 stars. A comprehensive, informed look at how to run a design business.

The book does focus heavily on the what and occasionally does so without (in my opinion) sufficient look at the why and how. For example, the section of "Proofreading" is good and important (who wants to his or her company to deliver something with a typo in it?), but to me quality assurance is a given -- the question I wanted answered was how to ensure quality assurance happens and ensure everyone makes sure it happens ev
