A tattered scarecrow stands in the middle of a muddy field, taking no notice of the violent thunderstorm around him. But when a bolt of lightning strikes him, fizzing its way through his turnip head and down his broomstick, the Scarecrow blinks with surprise–and comes to life.
So begins the story of the Scarecrow, a courteous but pea-brained fellow with grand ideas. He mee...more

Sedangkan sidekick-nya, Jack si pelayan, ...more

Si Boneka Jerami dan Pelayannya.

Boneka Jerami : bodoh, tapi sok tahu

Ingin menonton sandiwara, ngotot ...more

Very nice. Sadly, young liberal readers these days like to bash him while finding nothing dogmatic about Narnia, but then underneath Pullman's humour there is a biting wit, and the adventures have a realistic background which especially older readers can't fail to notice. Here soldiers aren't romanticised or idolised, and "non independentem judgi nogoodi", while "absolutem absurditas scaribirdibus landlordium". The orphan Jack is much smarter than his master Scarecrow, which ...more

This is a delightful little story, for children and adults alike. A scarecrow is struck by lightning, and comes to life; he recruits a young lad named Jack as his personal servant, and having nothing better to do the two embark on a grand adventure, complete with an army episode, entrangement on a solitary isle, and even a love affair. All complete with fun illustrations, bringing the story to life and pointing out its dramatic and hilarious moments just on time. Obviously inspired by Cervantes,...more

I discovered this audiobook by accident while looking for other Philip Pullman books to read. I absolutely loved the zany randomness of it. It reminded me of Don Quixote meets L. Frank Baum meets silly British humor. The story is that a scarecrow in a field comes along and gains a servant out of a young boy called Jack. They end up going on crazy adventures beating up bandits, joining the army, getting shipwrecked on a deserted island and making friends with the birds. It was a short quick book ...more

Seorang anak laki-laki...more

This really is a wonderful fairy tale. It has all the good qualities of a classic fairy tale -- imaginative, journeys, adventures, colorful characters, and bad-guys who are obviously bad.

The young boy, Jack, has sense enough to know that everything is quite odd -- what with his master being a turnip-headed scarecrow -- but has the youthful imagination to go along with it.

If there is a down-side to this book, it's that it did get to be a little long. Perhaps one too many a...more

I think that "The Scarecrow and his Servant" is a very good book even though it has no real meaning.

Jack is the servant's name and he helps the scarecrow out from a puddle of mud and the scarecrow has one leg missing so the scarecrow asked Jack to go and find another leg for him. Jack finds a leg for the scarecrow and brings it to him so Jack becomes his servant and they start going on adventures together.

A delightful fairy tale telling the adcenture of an innocent scarecrow with an inner conviction and with a smart, always-hungry boy Jack.

What I like about Pullman's writing is that there are so many things implied without being written blatantly; we can know the horror of the wars, the death of certain people, without he really describes the events in details.

I don't know why I picked up this book to listen to on my trip but I did. This is a take on Don Quixote with the Scarecrow being the one fight for right and his sidekick a young boy who helps him get what he needs to succeed. It's a sweet story--with a happier ending than Don Quixote.

Philip Pullman selalu punya sentuhan khusus. :)

The scarecrow comes to life one day and wanders from one adventure to the next. He is joined in his travels by an orphaned boy named Jack. It is through Jack's help that the scarecrow survived and inherits Spring Valley. For 5-6

I listened to this book. The plot that takes the silly scarecrow and his wise servant on an adventurous journey is a sophisticated fairy tale. I enjoyed the humor mixed in with the heart tugs. A clever and fun book.

The daffy, quixotic Scarecrow and his sensible boy servant, Jack, set off on a variety of adventures and eventually outwit the crooked Buffaloni family to stake their claim to the Scarecrow’s home, Spring Valley.

this book read a lot like a dream to me. i listened to it on audio and i would tune out for just a second and suddenly, the characters were no longer stranded on a desert island, they were in court before a judge. or they were no longer actors on a stage, they were enrolled in the army. literally. i have to wonder if he wrote this story in installments of letters to a young family member or something. it jumps all over the place! however, the use of language makes it worth reading. there were se...more

A great book about a scarecrow and his servant. The scarecrow lives in a country that is controlled by one family. The people of this country do not know that the Buffloni family are killing their country.

I didn't know what to expect when we first started listening to it, but once we got into it, I really enjoyed it. It was a delightful tale with a very smart servant and a brainless, mobile scarecrow.

Like many I picked this up because the story telling was so rich in his Dark Materials trilogy; however, it had the makings of The Wizard of Oz, but it feel short for me. Enjoyable nonetheless.

Well what can I say, I am a fan. I would probably rate anything written by Pullman highly. A fun fable, with some great moral teachings. I can't wait to read it to my children one day.
