This is a must read book for many educators and academics, not only in the U.S. but also in my country, Japan. Although the causes and reasons students hate math are different in each countries, we must do something to improve the situation.

One comment for the author; Prof. Mitsutaka Yuasa is not an "obscure physicist" in Japan. He was a former Chairman of "The History of Science Society of Japan" from 1969-1980.
