It's probably just me, but the "rethinking" piece of the thesis seems be lose steam after wading through st. Gregory. The opening chapters on Lindbeck, Williams, Tanner, and Milbank raise the question of Christian identity in this age we are in, however, it's not altogether clear how St. Gregory's teaching on the soul or discipleship moves us to new or better ground than previous. The St. Gregory stuff is fascinating. What I'm not sure about is how he contributes to the programs of Lindbeck and ...more
