Every life requires a spiritual foundation.
"Grandfather, you left this..." Julio lifted the leather-bound journal and stepped toward the old man.
"It is yours now," said Antonio, with a gleam in his eye. "I've lived my life according to the twelve principles recorded in it. And if you will apply its principles as I did, your success will be greater than you could ever imagi...more

Excellent book written in the style of Og Mandano. The teacher tells the story and the pupil learns steps or principles that will help him progress along life's highway on a path that would be approved by God. In this book the grandfather is telling the grandson how to have a bountiful prosperous life without getting into trouble or over extending himself by relating the story of how his mentor taught him. Each chapter has a basic point which the grandson deduces and then lives it for 3 years re...more
This was a wonderful book written in a parable style story to teach a life lesson about working for the right reasons. With a forward and endorsement from Dave Ramsey, you know it should make financial sense.

I received a copy of THE LEGEND OF THE MONK AND THE MERCHANT: TWELVE KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL LIVING by Terry Felber Thomas Nelson via BookSneeze. Overall, I found it an enjoyable and fast-paced read. The book starts with a foreword about material possessions by Dave Ramsey. It reminded me of my mother’s philosophy on goods: only have what you need and use them for the betterment of the world. You don’t need eights cars. Stick with one, and whenever possible, use it to help someone who isn’t able to g...more
"The Legend of the Monk and the Merchant” is a pilgrim tale. It’s a tale designed for people who want to go places and make their life count. This tale centers around the journey of a grandfather (Antonio) and his grandson (Julio), with the life lessons that come about during this time. Antonio brought his grandson Julio to Rome to see the sites and to offer a good deal of wisdom. Through the recounting of Antonio’s life, the reader is given a glimpse into sound financial principles. Given that...more
A number of years ago, I worked for a man who was rebuilding department in the company. He took sound business practices and worked to make the department better, run smoother and in all be a little more profitable. During my course of being in his employ, he had me read a book about business. The name of the book escapes me but it was written in story form to teach the reader about business. I stayed up that night reading all but the final few chapters; those were finished before work the next...more

This book affirms the truth that the extent of our worldly wealth is in direct proportion to the extent of our spiritual wealth. It demonstrates that our deepest desires and purposes in life will never be realized without focused surrender to God's prosperity plan.

The principles are sound, but I found my mind wandering often while reading this book. It could have been a lot shorter without losing any of the substance.

I found this book to truly live up to the praise that Dave Ramsey gives it on his radio show. It does indeed demonstrate how both the monk and the merchant are praising God and doing his work here on Earth. Through the fable, the reader receives the same insight and sense of wonder in the wisdom of the grandfather that the grandson does. I recommend this to anyone who comes from a faith and wants to express that faith in the marketplace. A fun read with great wisdom. Perfect for my collection.

Enjoyable read. Helped me(Monk) understand a handful of my friendships (Merchant) better.
Easy read that is packed with some valuable lessons on business, relationships, and the requirement to give. It helped me get a perspective on some of the biblical treatment of business and the relationship between wealth in money and true wealth.

I really enjoyed this book. I read it because it was suggested reading from Dave Ramsey and I was not disappointed. It is s quick read but with nuggets of wisdom throughout. I learned a lot from this fiction book.
