Illustrated with photographs, this tells the story of the 400,000 people who worked to make Apollo 11 a success, putting the first men on the moon - and bringing them home again.

Using in-depth details and behind the scenes information, Thimmesh makes the first moon landing engrossing by telling the story with suspense and enthusiasm. The book is reasonably big, allowing the photographs to pack More...

A great read right now, since our final shuttle mission lifted off July 8th. When most people think of the original moon landing, they think of Neil Armstong and his famous quote as he stepped onto the surface of the moon for the first time: "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." But who worked to get the three astronauts there, and how did they do it? Team Moon is the fascinating story of so many different little-known parts of the Apollo missions: the computer progr More...

The story of the regular people, yeah! Really, the amazing numbers of those who had to work so hard to get Apollo 11 and her crew to the moon and back is told with fantastic photos and creative formatting in this gorgeous volume. Readers from ten to adult will enjoy interacting with this beautiful, large format text. The really amazing thing is the story of how everyone wanted so badly to do this thing. the human race was out to peove that it could break another of the barriers of physics an More...

Team Moon: How 400000 People Landed Apollo 11 on the Moon by Catherine Thimmesh takes the reader through Apollo 11’s trip to and from the moon. Stopping at each phase to tell about the people responsible for each stage of the mission – fanned out around the US by companies such as Grumman, Kodak and Westinghouse Electric as well as NASA itself. The emphasis throughout the book is on the incredible cooperation and commitment by so many people and on the incredible riskiness of the endeavour. Thim More...

I have to say, I really did NOT like this book. It could be because I really don't have a lot of interest in Apollo 11 or in space exploration to begin with, but I just found it incredibly boring. I had to read it for a Children's Lit class and every time I turned the page, I kind of whined a bit because it was so boring. I think that a really great historical book can capture your interest even if you don't have interest in the topic; this was not one of those books. It was also too incongr More...

With gripping photos against a stark black background, author Catherine Thimmesh brings to life the massive, unified effort in America that resulted in the first successful moon walk. Thimmesh tells the stories in short vignettes, highlighting some of the more fascinating stories, such as the software designers who documented all of the program testing alarms, which provided vital information just before the landing that none of the people in the control room knew. The book dedicates a few pages More...

Team Moon is a look inside the Apollo 11 mission to put a man on the moon. Catherine Thimmesh used quotes from the astronauts (Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin) as well as pictures taken from the entire saga to tell the story. There were not any illustrations in the book; all images were photographs. She went chronologically from the beginning of the launch to the splash in the Pacific. Periodically she More...

Thimmesh used amazing pictures in this book. I thought that every one of them was beautiful and so interesting on each page. She used pictures that went along with the text that she was talking about and all of them were actual photographs. The text in this book was a little larger, but the pages were still full of it. Some of the words were a little extensive so for younger students this would be a good book for a teacher to read because it is very factual and interesti More...

Talk about information overload. Team Moon was a head-splitting array of text, pictures, interviews, etc crammed into any little nook or cranny the author so saw fit. I think this book could have benefited a lot from some careful editing. It was just too much content and lacked a certain connection to the reader. As I became discouraged while trying to get through the book, I asked my mom, dad, aunt, and aunt's friend who happened to be over to recount their experiences of when the man lande More...

What a great book by Thimmesh! The photos from the moon landing are phenomenal. Most of them are black and white but they really give the reader a sense of the time and history that occurred when Apollo landed on the moon. The text is fascinating, I never really thought about the enormous amount of time and people that went into such an adventure. I learned something new on every page. Children of all ages will be enthralled by all of the informat More...

Teammoon shines the spotlight not only on the three famous men who completed the Appollo 11 mission successfully, but all the thousands of others who were involved. IT is a gorgeous book well organized and beautifully delivered in clear understandable language, and well chosen photographs. The authority of the book is made clear in many substantial ways. More...

Thi is the perfect example of a book in which the topic is allowed to dictate the format and design. Thimmesh breaks her text into managable chunks and the design combines them in unique and visually dynamic ways that adds a new dimension to the book and also helps the reader move across the page, digesting the text in just the right way. I love the full phoot backdroips on some spread and the use of black background throughout to really make us feel instinctually that the book is abotu space--a More...

This is a great book, telling all about the work behind Apollo 11 landing on the moon. It includes amazing pictures, lots of background, and quotes from some of the 400,000 people who made it possible. Starting with President John F. Kennedy proposing this goal: “I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth.” This was the spark needed to make the impossible possible. I would recommend More...

Fascinating stuff! Thimmesh did a great job of keeping the technical aspects simple, yet at the same time not dumbing them down. The photos are breathtaking. They work together with the text and the quotes to tell an amazing and informative story. I was especially interested in the part about the photos, cameras, and development of the film that came back with them from the moon - since they had to kill any "moon germs" that might have come back, but didn't want to wait for the mon More...

Let me start by saying that I was not one of those kids who was into space and NASA as a kid. But maybe if I had had this book, I would have been.
What sets Team Moon apart from other books on space or Apollo 11 is Thimmesh's approach to the topic. Instead of just telling the basic facts and focusing on the space race and the astronauts themselves, she focuses on the team effort of the mission. The success of the mission and lives of More...

I was a total fanatic about NASA, the moon landings, and space travel in general when I was a child. I would have eaten this book up! Thimmesh chronicles the Apollo 11 mission chronologically, telling it as somewhat of an adventure story. But rather than focus on the astronauts' experiences (which is commonplace for this subject matter), she points out important equipment and events at each step, describing who made it and how they did it. Rich photographs fill whole pages, with boxed captio More...

This beautiful book gives a play-by-play of the first moon landing with Apollo 11. We've all heard of Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong. Maybe we've also heard of Michael Collins (the third member of the crew, who flew the ship but did not walk on the moon). But did you have any idea that there were 400,000 other people behind the scenes of the first moon landing? I didn't.

Team Moon goes into detail about problems that the astronauts encountered on their trip and the people who rushed t More...

This is an informational book about all the men and women who helped to put the "first man on the moon." The book is large in size with actual photographs on every page. The book gives some inside details on Apollo 11 that the public was unaware of at the time. For example, there was a speech prepared in case the return flight was unsuccessful and the astronauts were lost in space. The text is difficult for a third grader to read independently, but appropriate for the upper grades. More...

President John F. Kennedy set the goal: put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. America met the goal. But it was with the efforts of hundreds of thousands of people that this goal was met. Team Moon looks behind the act of a man walking on the moon to the work of all the people who got him there and then got him safely back home.

Team Moon utilizes detailed accounts and photography to describe Apollo 11's mission. Over 400,000 individuals were necessary to plan and overcome the challenges of the mission. Team Moom captures the team effort surrounding the Apollo 11 mission. With great pride America became the first country to land on the moon.

Brilliant and thorough book about the people behind the astronauts. I would give it 5 stars, but it's a stretch read and some kids simply won't finish it. Advanced readers and science geeks will love it, but I think ordinary kids will take a pass. Pity, because it is a very good book.

This book is about the first landing on the moon. There are pictures from the start to the end of the mission. Many people that were involved are mentioned. I am not one to pick out a book like this but I found it very interesting. The pictures were awesome to look at.

Some of the quotations were hard to understand (this book was written more middle-grade readers, and I had to go back and reread a bunch of the quotations to get what they were trying to say), and the organization was a little scattered, but this was a great book.
