This book was won as a Goodreads book. Thank you. Arrived in perfect time for grand child's visit.
Story was easy to read, and enjoyed by gran and child alike.

Shelves: teen
This is the story of a brother and sister whose parents are lighthouse keepers. They are left alone on the island for a day when a stranger appears. Then a storm comes, preventing their parents from returning to the island. There is mystery and intrigue along with a treasure hunt in this fast-paced story with limited vocabulary. This book is a good recommendation for those reluctant teen readers.

Shelves: childrens
Simon and his sister Ellen are left alone on the island for the day. He plans what adventures he can have with his parents away. His sister reminds him of the chores they need to see to. When Simon stumbles on a tent set up near the lighthouse, he realizes they aren't alone on the island. Why is the man here? What motivates the man to take risks that will endanger not only himself, but the two children who make the choice to try to save him?

I am a writer living in Victoria where I alternate between writing and teaching. I love writing about kids in action, kids exploring their world, and kids solving problems for themselves. In "Shimmy" I got to combine two of the things I love the most: dancing and writing, and in At The Edge of the World, I explored how kids become adults. I like to set my books in places I have lived, so that I ha ...more
