This was the most incredible book I've ever read on being a mom! Even though my daughter is already two years old, it was still relevant and hilarious. I haven't laughed this hard from a book in a long time. This is the answer guide for all mom's. Realistic, funny, and makes you feel like you are doing a good job, despite what that alpha mom down the street says. Below is are some quotes from the book

THis is a light, entertaining, and quick read, about as much wieght as a magazine article. It would be a good airplane book. There are some really funny points, thoughtful insights, and advice about parenting. However, some of it is a bit too judgemental about the "typical" moms out there which I found a bit grating. One whole chapter is devoted to baby names, not naming your kids weird things, etc... but then you look in the back of the book and there is the author smiling with her d...more

Oh God, this book is hilarious . . . and I am afraid I will turn into one of those mothers who will recommend books to her friends that make no sense to those who don't have kids. So tell me I'm being annoying if that happens. That being said, awesome book, and so true. Best insight--there will not be instant bonding the first instant you look at your child after giving birth. More than likely, both you and the child will be completely terrified of one another. (Rest assured, Summer and I a...more

I absolutely loved this book and saw a lot of myself in it. Truly hilarious! The basic message is that even though pregnancy and the early days of motherhood are filled with the most terrifying and life-changing moments a woman can experience (being ultimately responsible for another tiny being's very existence), it's okay to trust your instincts and to rely on your common sense...instead of driving yourself nuts with information overload and competing with all the crazy Supermoms out there. I REALLY enjoyed this book. I read it just before my first child was born. At the time, I felt bombarded with a lot of "rules" of how to be a good mom. I was worried if I would remember all of them. This book helped me to lighten up and remember to have a good time with Motherhood. I laughed out loud many times while reading it's chapters. Sometimes I would laugh so hard my husband would ask me to read out loud whatever it was I had read. I highly suggest this book to all new mo...more

The book is very simplisitic in its language, and not very well written. But oh man, is it ever FUNNY. The author captures perfectly the roller coaster that is new motherhood! I don't necessarily agree with everything she writes about (I wish she had been more patient with the breastfeeding for example). I read this when my son was less than a month old and I definitely could relate to everything she wrote about! It made me feel so much better about the job I was doing as a new mom at a poin...more

This book was hiLARious and should definitely be read as a reality-check buffer in between the all-definitely-useful-information (read: dryer) baby parenting books out there. The author's perspective as a new mom is priceless and her portrayals of certain (possibly unforeseen?) mommy situations do make one think about the eccentricities of the "perfect mommy" world that is by no means going away.

This book was a fast read and easy to read despite being sleep-deprived. Good for her target audience! It was funny (even though some of my parenting practices are the butt of her jokes). If you don't take yourself too seriously you can laugh at her jokes. It was nice to hear that my experience in new motherhood is pretty normative and she had a lot of the same experiences I've had.

I just wish I read it much earlier. But the book is awesome. Written in light, humorous way eases a lot of new moms' anxiety and doubts. It gives me fresh point of view at many issues including my recently lost friendship (well, if i'd read it before I probably wouldn't make some mistakes and at least saved myself a lot of pain). Very refreshing and relaxing.

Very amusing and easy read. Her cynicism was over-the-top at times, but she nailed several parts of being a mom right on. Keep in mind this is meant to be a comic read, and not a parenting guide! I think this would make a great gift idea for a new mom - I'm sending my copy to a friend of mine about to become a new mom - to twins - sometime in April.

My tastes are running to parenting-type books (I barely have time to read as it is). This was given to me as a gift and I loved it--I laughed out loud many times. The gist of it is...chill out. You can subscribe to the latest "parenting philosophies" or you can trust your instincts. The latter is going to make you happier and healthier.

my sister bought me this book when she found out i was pregnant. i thought it was going to annoy me, but i must've been so caught up in the whole "pregnant" thing that i was able to look past the flippant, stereotypical view of parenting. did i learn anything? no. however, i love the title. and that's worth at least 2 points.

This book had a little too much language and way too many references to a certain sex act for my taste. However it was funny and refreshingly honest. In fact, I agreed with most of what the author had to say. I would recommend it to new moms who aren't bothered by the occasional four-letter word.

Very funny and refreshing book. I think I appreciated it much more since my child is just a couple of weeks away from turning two then I would have as an expectant mother. It's a nice change from all the normal parenting books. Definitely some laugh out loud moments in there.

This book was so hilarious I wished it was 100 pages longer! It's the perfect new parent book and is a nice break from all the serious new baby information books.

I am about to have my first baby and this book says it all. It is the best mommy book around because it is so funny and true. I learned so much about what will happen after baby is born and it was very fun to read. A must read for all mommys!!!!

A wonderful tome of essays regarding new mommyhood with a focus on dealing and interacting with new moms. The author has a sardonic razor-sharp wit that keeping me laughing out loud or giggling to myself throughout much of the book.

I kept waiting for this book to get to the funny part. It didn't. I guess it was trying to be ironic and humorous but I wasn't feeling it. Needless to say, I skimmed the rest after I realized it was so ridiculous and called it a day.

I wish I wrote this book. I could have. I'm pretty sure I've thought and said many (if not most) of the things in there, just not as funnily as she managed to do it. Refreshing, hilarious, and just what I needed!

This book is funny and cute and a great read for mothers or those planning on someday being a mom.
It's a candid look at mother hood - you'll laugh out loud and feel more competent about having a baby.
