This has more of the same types of mini-plotlines as the previous volumes. I'm liking the episodic nature of this series--it does build on itself, but it's one of those series I can easily pick up after a while and not be completely lost as to what's happening.

Like the first four in this series, I enjoyed the little subplots in this and was happy to see the Valentine's Day/White Day plot brought back and concluded.
In this volume, Kimihiro is dispatched on a rescue mission to aid a very funny rain spirit. Another tale deals with a very evil plot by an enemy of Yuko, and there is another dealing with Kimihiro's quest to find the beautiful spirit that gave him chocolate on Valentine's Day.

I found this one of the most funny volumes by far. I kept laughing page after page. The characters have all been developed very well (as you would expect from CLAMP), and I like each and every one of them. I would say that...more

I don't get it.. Seriously.. this was just PLAIN and boring! Not a lot of events happen in this volume, it's not THAT bad, but with all the ranting and complaining that Mr. Watanuki provides, and all the dull-ness and (-_-) faces that Mr. Doumeki provides, makes the series really annoying. And I H-A-T-E the main character "Watanuki". I read the first volume, it wasn't bad. and I loved the 2nd volume, nothing special in it, however, the 3rd volume, the whole (complaining/ranting) scenario repeate...more

Synopsis: xxxHolic by Clamp follows Watanuki, an orphan who is plagued by spirits. While being chased by spirits, Watanuki runs into a strange shop and meets a strange woman named Yūko. She turns out to be a powerful witch, and makes a deal with Watanuki to help him remove his "curse" in exchange for working in her shop and cooking for her. Hijinks and adventure ensue.

I can't remember now why I picked up the first volume of xxxHolic, but I'm glad I did. The series starts off in...more

XxxHolic Volume 05 by CLAMP has three mini stories and one point of crossover with Tsubasa: Resreservoir Chronicle that hints at the arc plot. The ministories involve Watanuki helping a little girl who is lost, a quiet girl sprouting wings and the rescue of a mountain spirit, the Zashiki-Warashi.

Watanuki gets a little more character development through a flashback of his friendship with a boy who is also tied to the April Fool's Day. The boy helps Watanuki manage his spirit problem by showing hi...more

The hydrangeas are another of my favourite stories, all of it, the child and the spirits and Doumeki and the ribbon. Beautifully done. It is difficult to write such a thing without veering into sentimentality, but I think it was well-managed here.
Amewarashi, friend (or cousin or something) to Zashikiwarashi, makes her sassy appearance after having been referred to Watanuki (no doubt by Zshkwrsh herself) because she has "someone" she wants rescued and can't get near herself. The someone she wants saved turns out to be a hydrangea that is being contaminated by the corpse of young girl. She can't get "near" because the dead girl is actually in the realm between living and dead and since Amewarashi is an immortal being, she can't walk those...more

CLAMP, xxxHolic vol. 5 (Del Rey, 2005)

There's something about the fifth volume of xxxHolic that seems to encourage lawlessness. My library's copies walked off, so I had to get it Interlibrary Loan, and the copy I received had a few pages that had been expertly sliced out. Go figure. CLAMP really seem to have gotten into this one in the past few episodes, as they follow up the twin-sister episode with some real crackers here. All the wackniess of the Valentine's Day hijinks in volume 4 come back...more
I gotta say I really like this manga. SO far I'm liking it more than Tsubasa. The only thing that I'm not fond with is the episodic themed events throughout the series. I hope at somepoint it will pick a plot and can drag the rest of the series with it, but I highly doubt that.
In this volume you get to see two stories, the first one was really interesting and has The Ghost Whisperer tease, the second one was also interesting. A great volume. I gotta say I love Yuko San when she shifts from DEAD...more

I think my favorite part about reading this series is looking at the awesome chapter splash page artwork! (is that sad?) Haha! The splash pages are just fantastic! My favorite one from this volume was the last on of Watanuki looking like a genie! I also loved the first two page spread of Watanuki and Domeki-kun looking like old school vampires. I love all of them but those two were probably my favorites!

And that is really all I have to say for this volume :-/ I'm enjoying this series but it's no...more
[Ch. 49-60]

I don't know why, but reading Clamp's works always makes me so confused! I don't know why they have to make everything so confusing. I do like the psychological message it gives you, but it is so confusing. It reminds me of when I was reading Tsubasa and everything did not make sense till I read the later chapters..

But it's a nice break from shoujo mangas, which I always read. I can't wait to read the next volume..
Kimihiro Watanuki is the indetured servant of Yuko, the beautiful but completly unpredictable Space-Time Witch. He must work at the bizarre wish-granting shop until he can pay off his own wish: to be free of the spirits that haunt him. Yuko's latest customer is a rain spirit who wants Kimihir dispateched on a rescure missio. Little does kimihiro know that his mission will take him to death's door!

Although there is no plot, its really episodic. However! Things are starting to get in motion. Yuko is a very interesting character. As are Watanuki, Maru and Moro, Domeki and Himawari. I'm looking forward to the next volume. Who has Yuko finally found? And how are Watanuki, Domeki and Himawari connected? Because I'm sure they are.
Loved the whole series. Clamp creates beautiful visuals and beautiful writing. A must read series for Clamp, manga, and fantasy fans.
