Ned Allen is young, smart, and upwardly mobile. Several years into his career as an ad salesman for a successful computer magazine, Ned's finally left his small-town roots behind, and is certain that the sophisticated Manhattan world he covets is his forever. His wife Lizzie is also a rising star of a prestigious PR firm. It seems that Ned's made it. But then what appeared to be a career break shows its true colours. Ned's forced to make some tough calls, among them a question of ethics and the

I think its a shame the cover of this book put me off reading it - it is actually a great holiday read, a really taut and edge of the seat thriller which I found very hard to put down and thoroughly enjoyed: I could imagine it on the big screen perhaps. I know the old adage about not judging the book by the cover is true but these days I think there are so many trashy (looking) covers in the shops it is hard not to put them into categories in your head based on their appearance (I am guilty - an

I think I want to give this a 3.5/5 stars. When I started it I thought, oh no, way too wordy and talky. But I have to admit, Kennedy captured my interest as I read the narrator, Ned Allen's, train-wreck of a story. It is a real "page-turner" that does not insult one's intelligence. I liked it and would definitely give Douglas Kennedy another try. He seems prolific, so it looks like there are a lot of other books out there.

this was a bit different from the other Kennedy novels. I also wonder how it turns out in the end will the couple get back together or not. I hate when that happens. Lot of information and a love twist which tends to be a typical Kennedy trait. Good book but not one of his best in my opinion.

I picked up this book for a flight, from the backseat of my moms car....so not my usual choice for a book. I knew it wasnt going to be a GREAT book when i began reading, and i was right. But i kept reading, mostly curious about the fate of the main character.

Another Kennedy book that I really enjoyed. Past faced, grabbed my attention right away. and the downward spiral of the main character is so believable.

Took a while to get into, but quite liked it in the end! Good page turner and for someone who isn't really a thriller person, it was a fun read.

Another excellent book I discovered by Kennedy - a "new to me" author. His writing is so real. This was an easy, compelling read.

Unusual novel. Brings home the struggle sales people have and there is a ring of truth in the story. Well worth a read.

good book and characters - of the four I have read - this is my least favorite.

This is a wonderful beach book. I loved it. It is truly a great read. Ned Allen is a go-getter sales maven. He loses his job and his wife and finds his life auguring down quickly. His first steps on the way back dip his toe into a huge corporate mess where bodies start to appear. The best thing about this book is Ned Allen. I was rooting for him from the first word to the last. According to my copy, this is Kennedy's second book. I'm off to find the first one!

Not a bad read, deffinitely in the beach read section of my shelves. The story is good, the delivery is also good, it just wasn't one of my favorites.

This is a good read from Douglas Kennedy, the second one I've read to date. A good intriguing thriller I say.

I'd like to recommend this book. Each person who worked ever in big company will find something for yourself.
