Theres Advanced, Basic and This book - Way To Simple!: This is basically an outline for beginners ONLY. If you expect to be able to move on past simple installation and configuration, save your money! The software Drupal, phpBB and wordpress are all excellent programs. This book is an introduction to each and has nothing to do with building online communities. Way to simple. SORRY!!!
This looks good. I will read it more completely later, but it has little to do with community building and more with hacking the three platforms.
Some decent information, but it was pretty much out of date when it was published.
A very broad overview book. Read to get a better understanding of a few open source options. I personally didn't find it very useful.
Good book for Drupal 5.
